Regency Plaza Resort – Extremely Disappointing Experience

Having stayed at numerous four- and five-star resorts in Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, I can confidently say that Regency Plaza falls well short of five-star standards.

On arrival, we were initially offered a room that did not match our booking, followed by another that was extremely dirty and poorly maintained. The safe was broken, the furniture and fittings were dated, doors had noticeable gaps, and the sun loungers were stained and covered in bird droppings. We eventually accepted one room so we could begin our holiday, and staff did their best to clean it.

Hygiene was a serious concern. In one bar serving snacks, pigeons were nesting in the ceiling area, leaving droppings on tables and floors. Cleaning this with water and a squeegee is simply unacceptable for a resort claiming five-star status.

The spa was another major disappointment. It did not resemble what I would consider a proper five-star spa; it was essentially a common room with treatment beds and a jacuzzi. The steam room, which also serves as the hammam, was particularly concerning, with extensive black mould visible throughout the area. I also noticed staff smoking while carrying out their duties, which is completely inappropriate in a professional spa environment and further detracted from the overall experience.

There were also significant safety concerns around the grounds, including exposed electrical cables and heavy stone slabs left lying around. I raised these issues directly with management after witnessing a barefoot child attempting to lift one of the slabs, presenting an obvious risk of serious injury. The general upkeep of the pool area and grounds was also disappointing.

The resort appears to lack sufficient management oversight and attention to detail. While the staff were generally pleasant, good staff alone cannot compensate for inadequate supervision, maintenance and hygiene standards.

On a positive note, the food was good. However, this was one of very few highlights and does not outweigh the numerous shortcomings.

The advertised “ultra all-inclusive” experience was equally disappointing. The minibar was stocked only once for the entire stay, regardless of its duration, cocktails were poor, beer portions were small, and the Wi-Fi was unreliable outside the room. This fell far short of what I would expect from an ultra all-inclusive resort.

I stayed at a four-star resort in Turkey just two weeks earlier, and the overall experience was considerably better. Regency Plaza appears to be relying on a reputation it may have earned years ago, rather than maintaining the standards expected today.

There are many other issues I could list, but I have made my points and will now move on with my life. My holiday experience here has been deeply disappointing, and I hope management takes this feedback seriously and makes the necessary improvements.

Overall, I would not return to Regency Plaza or recommend it, particularly to families with children, given the hygiene and safety concerns. There are considerably better resorts in Sharm El Sheikh available for less money. Regency Plaza has substantial work to do in terms of refurbishment, cleanliness, safety and management before it can justify its five-star and ultra all-inclusive claims.

This was without a doubt the hardest and most uncomfortable bed I have ever had to sleep in. I spent five nights here, and the bathroom was in a very run-down and poorly maintained condition.

The air conditioning was louder than a World War II fighter jet, making it extremely difficult to relax or sleep properly.

The food was either completely tasteless or simply inedible, and the alcoholic drinks barely contained any alcohol at all.

But what really ruined the experience was the constant harassment on the beach. Every time I tried to lie down and relax, someone would come over every five minutes trying to sell me something, whether it was sand souvenirs, camel rides, or some other activity. I understand that these are part of the local tourism business, but after a while it became incredibly annoying and exhausting.

I came here to relax and enjoy a peaceful holiday, but there was not a single minute when I felt left alone. Unfortunately, they managed to ruin almost everything I was looking forward to.

Definitely not the relaxing holiday I had hoped for.
