Wonderful Stay

Upon arrival I initially experienced some checking in/ room assignment glitches, however, things got sorted out, and I ended up enjoying my stay. The room was Clean and comfortable, I enjoyed the delicious food at the jerk shack by the beach ( very pleasant people working at the shack) and the nightly entertainment on site. Special thanks to Deondre ( at the front desk) Homroy ( bellman) , Therese ( Captain restaurant) and David ( privilege Club) for amazing service). An area for growth for the hotel would be to offer a wider variety of foods at the buffet. Overall, a great stay!

Enjoyable Stay at a Beautiful Resort, but Some Areas Need Improvement

Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay at Ocean Eden Bay. The resort itself is beautiful, the buildings and grounds are very nice, our room was spacious and comfortable, and there were plenty of activities for our family to enjoy. Most of the staff we encountered were also very kind and pleasant.

That said, there were several issues with food quality, consistency, communication, and responsiveness that we don’t think quite match what you would expect from a five-star resort.

Staff

First, some well-deserved recognition. Billy from the pool activities team was fantastic and deserves a special shout-out. He was kind, entertaining, engaging, and genuinely helped make our vacation more enjoyable. Fresh was also great, and we really enjoyed the pool activities with both of them.

Kaci at reception also deserves recognition. He checked us in when we arrived, and check-in was very smooth. Throughout our stay, whenever we had an issue and dealt with him, he was consistently kind and helpful.

Most of the staff we encountered throughout the resort were pleasant, and service at the restaurants was generally good.

Room and housekeeping

Our reservation was for three people, and we upgraded to a swim-up room. The room itself was spacious and clean, the beds were comfortable, and the shower had very good water pressure. Overall, we were comfortable.

The swim-up was a nice feature, although we personally didn’t use it very much because the water was considerably colder than the main pool.

There were, however, several smaller issues. The air conditioning seemed to periodically shut off or reset itself to a higher temperature. We also had to have our room-key bracelets reconnected several times because they stopped opening the room door.

Housekeeping generally did a good job cleaning the room, although the time they came varied considerably from day to day. There was no bath mat in the bathroom, and on one occasion housekeeping removed our bath towels and left us with only one bath towel for a room occupied by three people. We had to call three times before replacement towels were finally delivered.

The clothes steamer that was supposed to be in the room was also missing, and we again had to call several times before one was brought to us.

We were also surprised to learn that bathrobes are apparently only provided to Privilege guests. For a resort marketed as five-star, this was disappointing. We have stayed at lower-rated hotels and resorts where robes and slippers are standard room amenities, so this seems like an unusual amenity to restrict.

Another surprisingly basic omission was that there was no “Do Not Disturb” or “No Housekeeping Needed” door sign, or another obvious way to indicate that we did not want the room cleaned at a particular time.

Pool and beach towels

The pool/beach towel situation was probably one of the most surprising operational issues.

On our first day, we went to get towels at the Ocean Eden Bay pool and there were none available. We then went over to Ocean Coral Spring and encountered the same problem—no towels there either.

We eventually went to the Ocean Coral lobby, where a very kind lady, who I believe worked with the excursions department, went out of her way to locate towels for us. We really appreciated her help, but guests at a five-star Caribbean resort should not have to go between two properties and eventually to the lobby trying to find basic pool or beach towels.

On another day, we had towels on our pool lounge chairs and returned to find that they had been removed.

The resort really needs a better and more reliable system for managing pool and beach towels.

Pools and beach

The pools were one of the highlights of our stay. They were clean, we really enjoyed spending time there, and the activities made the atmosphere even better.

The beach itself is quite rocky, so I strongly recommend bringing water shoes. We had read reviews before arriving and knew about this, so we came prepared. We generally preferred going farther toward the Ocean Coral Spring side because the water seemed clearer there.

The water itself was wonderful—very warm and enjoyable. Overall, the beach was okay, but we absolutely loved being in the water.

Activities and entertainment

There was plenty for our family to do. We enjoyed the pools, pickleball, bowling and the different activities offered between Ocean Eden Bay and Ocean Coral Spring. Having access to both properties is definitely a nice benefit.

The magic show was excellent and was one of the entertainment highlights for us.

Unfortunately, there were some organizational issues with pickleball. One evening, our family wanted to play and initially no one at the Ocean Coral lobby seemed to know where the rackets and balls were. We were told that perhaps someone was already using them at the court, so we walked over, but no one was there. We had to return to the lobby, and eventually the staff located the bag containing the rackets and balls.

When we got to the court, the lights were off. We returned to the lobby and asked for them to be turned on and were told that someone would be contacted. Unfortunately, the lights were never turned on.

Again, this wasn’t something that ruined our vacation, but it was another example of requests not always being followed through.

Food and restaurants

Unfortunately, food was one of the weaker aspects of our stay.

At La Locanda, the Italian restaurant, none of the three of us particularly enjoyed our meals. Two of the pasta dishes were overly salty, and one was so salty that it could not be eaten and had to be sent back and remade. This is not a restaurant we would repeat.

At Blue Moon, the bread was good and the meal overall was okay, but the escargot I ordered was extremely salty.

At the steakhouse, the flavor of the meat itself was good, but the cooking temperatures were not accurate. For example, a steak ordered medium-well arrived much closer to medium/medium-rare. At a steakhouse in particular, we would expect steaks to be cooked reasonably close to the requested temperature.

We also tried Ocean Burger, which unfortunately wasn’t particularly impressive.

The breakfast buffet offered a variety of options, but the quality of some items could be improved. The pancakes and waffles weren’t particularly good, and the crepes were much too thick.

We were also surprised by the relatively limited fresh-fruit selection for a Caribbean resort. More disappointing was the lack of fresh/natural fruit juices. The juices seemed more like packaged or processed juices. At a Caribbean resort, particularly one positioned at this level, we expected a much better selection of fresh fruit and natural fruit juices.

The coffee shop was fine overall. The espresso could be improved, but the other drinks we tried were okay. Drinks at the bars were also fine.

Bowling alley experience

One experience at the bowling alley at Ocean Coral Spring was particularly disappointing because it involved inconsistent application of the resort’s own posted rules.

We had visited the bowling alley on each of the previous three days and played three complete games each time without any issue.

On 12 August, we arrived and initially had to wait outside because the facility wasn’t accessible and a group of staff appeared to be taking a break. Once we were allowed in, we played our first game and had already started our second when a staff member approached us and told us that because she had a waiting list, we were limited to one game per family.

The problem is that this is not what the posted regulations say. The regulations displayed directly outside the bowling alley state that if there is a waiting list, the maximum playing time is one hour. At the time we were approached, we had not been playing for an hour.

We completely understand and support having a time limit when other guests are waiting. That’s fair. What we don’t think is acceptable is having a written rule stating one thing and then imposing a different rule after guests have already started playing.

If the policy is a maximum of one hour when there is a waiting list, that rule should be consistently applied. If the policy has changed to one game per family, then the posted regulations should be updated and guests should be informed before they begin playing. Rules should not appear to change from one day to another depending on who happens to be working at the counter.

We didn’t want to argue with the staff member, so despite already being partway through our second game and still being within the posted one-hour limit, we simply stopped playing and left.

Check-out and responsiveness

Check-out itself was smooth. There was just one small issue with our luggage.

Because we had an early departure, we went to the front desk the night before and specifically requested that our luggage be collected from our room at 7:00 a.m. for our 7:30 a.m. transfer.

After having a quick coffee, we arrived in the lobby at approximately 7:20–7:25 a.m., but our luggage had still not been collected. The lady handling our checkout had to contact the bellboy, and we waited a few additional minutes for it to arrive.

This was not a major issue and didn’t cause us to miss our transfer. However, when considered together with the multiple calls required for towels and the steamer, the unanswered request to turn on the pickleball court lights, and some of the other experiences during our stay, it highlights what we believe is one of the resort’s main areas for improvement: internal communication, responsiveness, and follow-through on guest requests.

Overall

Despite the criticisms above, we genuinely had a good and enjoyable vacation at Ocean Eden Bay. This is not a review from a family who disliked the resort. The property is beautiful, our room was spacious and comfortable, the pools were excellent, the warm ocean water was wonderful, there were plenty of activities, and most of the staff we encountered were genuinely kind and pleasant.

The main issue is that some of the smaller details and recurring operational problems don’t consistently match the five-star positioning of the resort. Individually, things such as waiting for towels, a missing steamer, luggage not being collected at the requested time, or difficulty getting lights turned on might seem minor. Collectively, however, they create the impression that the systems for communicating and following through on guest requests need improvement.

Food quality and consistency are another area where we think significant improvement could be made, particularly with seasoning and preparation, breakfast quality, fresh fruit, and the availability of natural fruit juices.

There is a lot to like about Ocean Eden Bay, and with better consistency and attention to these details, the overall experience could be significantly better.

Finally, another special thank you to Billy. He really stood out during our stay and helped make our time at the resort more fun and memorable.

Girls Trip! Ocean Eden Bay — Almost Perfect!

We just returned from a 5-night stay at Ocean Eden Bay, and overall, we had an amazing vacation! In fact, I would say almost everything about the trip was perfect. The resort is beautiful, the food was fantastic, and the staff and service were truly some of the highlights of our stay.

❤️ The Bright Spots

Marco in the Privilege pool area absolutely made our stay! He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we were having a great time. Every morning he greeted us with a smile and made sure we were taken care of throughout the day. His attention to detail did not go unnoticed!

On Marco’s day off, Shanice stepped right in and was equally amazing. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Having people like Marco and Shanice taking care of us really made the Privilege experience special.

If you're staying in a Privilege room, definitely go have a drink with Daniel at the Privilege Bar! He made some of the best drinks we had all week and was so much fun to talk to. Great drinks, great conversation, and lots of laughs!

The restaurant staff also deserve a huge shout-out.

Sammora at the Steakhouse was fantastic. She greeted us with a friendly smile on our first night and told us we'd be back. She was right! 😂 The food and her service were so good that we made a reservation for a second night specifically so we could request her as our server.

Bobby at La Locanda was another standout. He was wonderful, and if you go, get the burrata with marinated tomatoes! Trust me. 😉

Needless to say, the staff, service, and food were all wonderful and really made our vacation special.

😕 The One Big Miss: Housekeeping

Unfortunately, there was one significant dark spot during our stay, and that was housekeeping.

I've stayed at quite a few resorts, and I've honestly never experienced anything quite like this.

On our first night, my room was never cleaned, even though the rooms surrounding mine had been serviced. I initially tried to overlook some things, including hair left in the shower, but then I discovered a pair of underwear behind the nightstand that did not belong to me. 🤢

I contacted the resort about it, and they did send someone up to remove them, which I appreciated. However, after that experience, I unfortunately never felt like my room was truly clean. Certain details were just missed.

For a resort of this caliber, that was disappointing and definitely something I hope management addresses.

🌴 Overall

That said, housekeeping was really our only complaint. Everything else about our stay was wonderful, and the incredible staff we encountered far outweighed that one negative experience.

Ocean Eden Bay gave us an amazing Jamaican vacation. With some improvement and consistency in housekeeping, this could easily have been a 5-star experience from beginning to end.

And to Marco, Shanice, Daniel, Sammora, Bobby, and all of the other staff who took such great care of us — thank you for making our trip so memorable! 🇯🇲❤️
