2.5 stars is what I would rate this place. I was surprised by the lack of kid activities between the ages of 9 - 17. We had three families who travelled and vacationed together this past week at the Riu Aquarelle and the only real entertainment was the 7 seven different slides at the water park which you can only go on them so many times before being bored. Rooms were maintained fairly clean, however it was hard to keep the rooms cool, most of the door stoppers were busted, and the TVs did not work for two straight days. Food was ok, nothing great about it, but it is what you probably could expect for a buffet. Nothing special about Kyoto or Steakhouse dinners we had. We decided we needed to go off resort was the better option during the day which we did two of the days. Night entertainment was ok, except for the Reggae Band they had one night was really good.
There were some positive points for the hotel, namely the staff who are generally very good (particularly Dwain who was excellent and worked incredibly hard), the rooms are nice and the hotel is generally pretty clean. Food is also pretty good (typical buffet food with a lot of choice) and it was easy to get into the speciality restaurants through the app. What I struggled with was the constant noise from the hotel with music blasting from 10am till the early hours. If it wasn’t the hotel, it was from fellow guests who bought speakers to the pool/beach and subjected us to their music. There was also the public party that was on further up the beach which blasted music till gone 5am on the Saturday night. Essentially, if you want a noisy hotel with lots of music and noisy guests, this is a great option, if you want it a bit more chilled, look elsewhere.
The hotel exceeded our expectations. Super friendly staff, who remember your names; great sized comfortable rooms; fantastic food at the buffet, à la cartes, coffee shop, Sports Bar & Pepe’s.
Checked in online so we were quickly checked in & unpacking ready to enjoy our holidays.
There was always tables available at the buffet, which was always well stocked and refreshed. It was easy to book the à la cartes using the Riu app.
The entertainment team all work extremely hard. A shout out to Rooster, who was brilliant with our grandson. We thoroughly enjoyed the Michael Jackson Show & the History of Reggae. The dancing was amazing.
The slides were well used by our grandson as was the children’s pool area.
Sunbeds were comfortable & plentiful but get down after 10 & you’d struggle around the main pool. The volleyball pool seemed to be underused so making it accessible for all would be a tip. Waitress round the pool was excellent, shout out to Cardrena.
The hotel sits right on the beautiful beach. We had a fabulous time & will be back.
The only issue we had was some rude guests while waiting for the lifts. The Brits forming a queue & young Americans just barging in but …
Our family had a wonderful time at this resort! The service was exceptional, with incredibly friendly staff, and our room was always kept spotless. We loved that there was nightly entertainment for all ages and found the food to be consistently above average. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and perfect for families, our only complaint is that the week flew by too fast! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a fantastic family getaway.
This hotel was incredible and most certainly 5* worthy. All staff are the nicest people you will ever meet and they go above and beyond to make your experience unforgettable.
Food in the buffet was great. Romario and Dwain especially made our times in the buffet even better due to their kind nature and positive attitudes. You will never be short of a drink by the pool or the beach as waiters are always walking round topping up drinks. Shequila was especially a great waitress around the Marley bar pool.
Pearson on the dry side of the Marley bar was always a delight too and always greeted me with a smile and vibes I will not forget in a long time! The chicken at Pepe’s food was amazing and all the staff were lovely there too. No issues getting sun loungers like at other hotels as there are plenty and as long as you aren’t fussy about going on the front row you won’t have a problem getting these.
Toilets by the pool were always spotless and the cleanest pool toilets I’ve ever been in thanks to those cleaners. In the evening, the bar in reception was never busy and Nicola was a great waitress and always so happy! All the staff genuinely couldn’t do enough for you. Location is perfect and room was always spotless after cleaning in the day.
The steakhouse à la carte was unbelievable. Genuinely up there with some of the nicest steaks I’ve ever had so definitely go there if you book. The Asian also is some of the best food I’ve had in a while. A huge thanks to Devon, Timarley and Charles in the Asian à la carte restaurant who were brilliant and gave us some unforgettable experiences in there too! Such kind staff just like them all and always spreading positivity.
Finally it would be rude not to mention the entertainment staff, they did some of the best in house performances at the evening entertainment I’ve ever seen and during the daytime you will not be short for fun. Whether you like music or quiet during the day there is something for everyone here. Special mentions go to Rooster, Demoy, Turf, Spark and Orlando. Again such lovely, talented people and would make time for us all and make us all feel welcome at any activities.
The only 2 things I would argue could have been better was the pace of check in, obviously you have to understand it is a big hotel so lots of people coming in and out however if this can be done better it will give people an even better impression from the start. The main pool was also often cloudy but there were a lot of people and children so I can imagine this is hard to keep under control. The slides are also quite rough in the water park so be careful if you have any current injuries.
Overall a great holiday and I will definitely be coming back. The staff certainly made this holiday along with the location. I cannot recommend this place enough. Looking forwards to returning soon. Jamaica is certainly a new favourite destination.
1 more tip: Bring water shoes if you go in the sea. There are stingray and jellyfish in there I got stung by a jellyfish but the lifeguard sorted it out no problem. Also very rocky just past the shallow water.
