Best Greek holiday I've been on
I don't leave reviews, but this holiday was so enjoyable I decided to give it a go. We've just got back from Corfu Holiday Palace in Kanoni. The transfer from the airport only took about 15 minutes, may take slightly longer with multiple drop offs.
We stayed in room B26 (which I think was classed as a bungalow), it's up a hill separate to the main hotel. There were 2 single beds pushed together, 2 long sofas, a coffee table, fridge, kettle, espresso maker (coffee, tea bags, espresso pods, sugar & milks were replaced daily unless you put the do not disturb sign on the door). The cleaner also leaves bottles of water daily.
The outside terrace has a pool which was shared with 3 other properties. There are 2 loungers with a small table, & 2 chairs & a table, you can sit out there & watch the planes coming in to land.
When we arrived, a porter took our cases from reception & delivered them to our room, which once I'd walked up the hill to the bungalow I was very pleased about (If you dial 9 from the phone in the room, you can book the porter when you are leaving).
We had a late flight home, so left our cases in the luggage room & carry on bags in a locker (which cost €2) & we spent the day in town.
We stayed for 7 nights half board. Breakfast had the same things every day, but there is ample choice. Dinner varied daily (I am a fussy eater but there was always something there which I enjoyed). Breakfast & dinner is served in the dining room which is 1 floor below reception.
The staff were all very efficient & friendly & all spoke English, although I'm sure they enjoyed my attempt at Greek (Kalispéra, mía bípra, parakaló) If you go down to floor 3 levels below reception, exit the hotel & walk to the left of the outdoor pool, there is a funicular lift which goes down to the beach (I was afraid I'd overheat in it, but is has got constant air con). Once at the bottom, walk to the right & keep going around the corner, you will come to the little monastery. You can get a boat trip to Mouse Island (Pontikonisi) for €3 return fare (there's a little gift shop on there), the boat comes back for you 20 minutes later. 100M past the monastery there is the walkway which goes from Kanoni to Perama, you can sit on the wall halfway across & watch the planes go over your head & land on the runway. It's strange, but when you're in the hotel room, the planes taking off are extremely loud, but when your in the wall they're not as loud (we slept soundly at night, you get used to the noise of the planes, plus there are internal sliding doors which separate the bedroom from the sofas which would probably block out more noise, although we didn't close them).
If you walk out of the hotel & turn left, there are a couple of shops & restaurants on the right hand side. A bit further along is a gift shop & a cafe which overlooks the airport runway (which offers free WiFi).
There's a bus stop right outside the hotel, bus 2A loops to Corfu Town & back & runs every 20 minutes. The fare is €2 if you pay on the bus, but if you go to the mini shop 2 floors below reception, you can buy bus tickets for €1.30 each & they don't have to be used on the day (remember to buy a return ticket too). Corfu Town has lots of shops & eateries, you could easily spend a whole day exploring everywhere. The fort cost €10 to enter, it's a bit of a climb to the top, & some of the stones can be quite slippery, but the views are fantastic.
I certainly recommend Corfu Palace Hotel, & hope to stay there again.

Really nice food, comfy beds, nice beach - but busy and a little plane noise!
We loved the hotel after a day or so, but walking in to the room initially, we wern't quite as impressed as we thought they would be given reception had told us we had one of their upgraded rooms. The room however was perfectly well equipped with everything we needed. Its very rare you got to a buffet style restaurant and enjoy every meal, but safe to say, the food did not disappoint. Breakfast and dinner were great, good variety of food, all cooked beautifully, if it was served a little hotter that would be amazing, but it tasted good regardless. Coffee queue got a little long at times so maybe investing in more machines may be a good idea.
Bed was comfy, plenty of pillows, good air con, but if you are a light sleeper, staying in Kanoni/this hotel might not be for you. Planes are taking off and landing in the airport no more than 300 - 400m away so the noise could be alot from about 5am - midnight. Nice to watch though if that's your thing!
Beach and pool were very busy, not a sunbed spare after about 10.30am. Luckily we hired a car and planned to beach hop anyway. Sea was perfectly calm in a little cove area so perfect for young kids/weak swimmers, although there were fish that nipped at your feet. The gym... where do I start, put it this way, we walked in and walked out. Its a dump. As is the indoor pool, smelt like swamp.
All staff were friendly and accommodating, extended our check out with no issue, helped me with an adapter.
You can hire a boat from Kanoni Boat hire, just a 3 minute walk from the beach area, no licence required. That was one of our favourite days so highly recommend.
All in all, the hotel is well located close to beach, corfu town, airport, had free parking, and the food was unreal. I think if you can put up with some noise from the planes and being up early to reserve a sunbed, I'd highly recommend staying here.
To the hotel - with some really easy updates to the communal hallways, and facilities like the gym and slight hotter food, and taking off the textured wall paper from the rooms, you could have got a 5*!

Not a 5 star hotel
We’ve just returned from a one-week stay at the hotel
We couldn’t fault the staff, especially Antonia, Frances and Karen in the main restaurant. They were always attentive, friendly and helpful.
I do feel the hotel as a whole is in need of some modernisation, which is why, in my opinion, I wouldn’t rate it as a 5-star hotel in its current condition. I’ve seen reviews from other guests mentioning that they were given complimentary upgrades to upgraded rooms and modernised rooms , so perhaps if this had been the case for us, my overall impression may have been different.
One issue we did experience was with the toilets down at the beach, which were out of order for a few days. This meant that if you needed to use the toilet, you had to walk up the stairs from the beach to reach the lift, and then take the lift up to the pool area to use the pool toilets. This really wasn’t ideal, especially when spending the day down at the beach and with a young baby.
Overall, the staff were a real highlight of our stay, but I do think the hotel would benefit from some investment and modernisation to bring it up to the 5-star standard I would expect.
Third time here
This is the third time we have stayed at Corfu holiday palace. What brings us back? Only 15 min from the airport. Always a warm welcome by the porter( sorry forgot his name). He was waiting at the entrance and after checking in took us and our cases up to our newly refurbished room on the 7 th floor as we had requested. Bottle of wine and water waiting for us. Great that now they have got walk in shower, a thought for the management. Put hand grab rail in the shower to avoid anyone slipping on the floor, save any accidents. Room was very clean, comfortable bed, well stocked fridge, tea and coffee machines and beautiful view from the balcony. The hotel was much busier this year and was fully booked the whole of September. The choice at breakfast brilliant and the sweet selection in the evening wow! Special thanks to John Lloud We managed to get sunbeds both by the pool and down on the beach, but after 10 o’clock all were taken.
