TripAdvisor Review
Rundown rooms, mediocre food, terrible customer service, and they nickle and dime you.

This place was a terrible experience. We saved our money all year to go to Greecce and this hotel felt like a scam. The website was deceiving, pools were mediocre, the kids pool is not even a pool and good only for 1-2 year olds. The buffet was ok but they CHARGE you for water and juice which is really tacky. We had bugs in our room. The water is nice at beach but the entire experience as a 3-star trying to say they're 5-star. Terrible customer service.

Well resourced resort

Great facilites and clean swimming beaches. We played tennis, rented paddle boards and made use of the gym. Loads of sunbeds and clean towels.

Delicious gluten free pancakes for breakfast.

TripAdvisor Review
Not a 5 star experience

The accommodation was good overall, the situation great and in no way disappointing in terms of locations and aspect. However, whilst the room was clean and kept as such, there were serious signs of age and wear, the headboard and bed in particular were torn and marked. The real disappointment was the food and drink, the evening buffet was just not up to 5 star standard and as such the cost of the drinks seemed far in excess of the standard of fare. There was no al a carte at the actual hotel, only at the sister hotel nearby which proved to be difficult to book and the supposed discount not available to all meals. Having said that we did manage to have 2 meals at the Elounda Bay Hotel, both of which were excellent, expensive but worth it given the standard of food and surroundings in that hotel. The staff at the Elounda Palace seemed to play down the town of Elounda, its location or the ease of getting to it from the hotel, so we ate principally in the town having given up the idea that the half board buffet was suitable, we met many other guests who felt the same. In summary, this is a 4 star plus hotel with issues and we would not really recommend it to family or friends as anything like the claimed 5 star experience.

Location, location, location

Short: Exceptional hotel and location with friendly, super helpful staff.

In my view one of the best hotels in the area given its stunning location and proximity to the heart of Elounda. The hotel has direct access to beautiful private beaches and stunning views of the surrounding area.

Long: I visited from Scotland, United Kingdom for 7 nights, 14th-21st September 2026, staying in room 212 (classic, sea view room - double) as a solo traveller.

Welcome and room As I was arrived late evening, I opted for a private transfer via Sun Transfers (online booking - I use them all the time whilst travelling around Europe). This meant a very pleasant comfortable ride arriving at the hotel within the hour (approximately). To note, this can take up to two hours via shared coach transfer.

On arrival I was greeted by a member of the concierge team who kindly took my case directly to the room and guided me in the direction of the main reception to complete the express check-in. Check-in took less than 10 minutes, with pertinent points covered, which I was thankful for. It was highlighted at the time that guests are able to venture across the whole site including the sister hotel next door. To note, you can request a golf buggy via reception if required. I was informed that further information was available via the concierge team at anytime during my stay.

I was shown to my room which did not disappoint. Room 212 is 1 floor up accessible via stairs or lift. The room was exactly as shown in promotional pictures with the most delightful view of grounds and the sea (refer to photographs) which is in part illuminated in the evening. Stunning.

Fresh flowers, a bottle of wine, two bottles of water, a fresh fruit bowl as well as a sandwich and Greek salad were a welcome addition.

To note, the room was large with an additional seating area, private balcony and included a coffee pod machine with Illy pods (replenished daily and additional pods or creams provided upon request), safe (no charge), array of towels (face, hand, bath and pool towels), selection of toiletries, slippers, hairdryer, TV, fluffy dressing gowns x2 sizes and 2 cotton gowns. Storage was more than ample and included a large number of wooden hangers.

Overall, the room was absolutely spotless and cleaned daily during the day with an evening turn down service (also replacing used towels). The room was incredibly peaceful and the bed was super comfy with large ‘marshmallow’ pillows providing an excellent restful sleep. No neighbouring noise.

Other room options are available depending on your own individual preferences and budget including deluxe rooms and villas.

As shown in the accompanying photos, the sunrise was spectacular and a real highlight (also evident from the breakfast dining area).

My only negative and recommendation to the hotel would be to supply daily drinking water to the rooms as well as water stations at the outdoor bar areas.

Food Breakfast was from 07:15, and I went at different times throughout my stay. It was always peaceful no matter what the time. The breakfast options were impressive and included, but not limited to, a variety of yogurts, toppings, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses, eggs (poached, boiled, scrambled, fried, omelettes), variety of breads and conserves, sweet pastries, waffles, pancakes and crepes. Smoothies and freshly squeezed juices. In addition, hot items also served incl. bacon, sausages, tomatoes, hash browns etc. Teas and coffees were offered by the lovely breakfast team as part of the table service.

The evening buffet was busier but very well managed by Sofia and the team and I never had an issue finding a table. Drinks orders were taken quickly. The service was excellent. Unlike breakfast, water is offered as part of their table service at 5 euros per large chilled bottle (possibly 1 litre). I didn’t have an issue with this, taking leftover water back to the room. A glass of wine was 10 euros for reference - whole bottle options were available which would be preferable if sharing.

As per breakfast plenty of choice on offer for the dinner buffet. Always different fish and meat options, vegetable main options and sides, salads and pasta dishes, cold meats and cheeses and fresh fruits. Each item noted allergy advice. To note, there was a pasta and pizza section as well. The pudding section was vast and very popular.

Beach/ Pools Whilst the pools and surrounding areas looked nice and clean, I opted for the smaller of the two beach areas. All areas have beach / pool attendants who are on hand to provide sun lounger covers, towels and additional loungers if required.

There was the odd reserved lounger (typically someone going for breakfast then returning) but always loungers available when I arrived between 8-11am. I can’t stress enough, if you have any issues just ask for help.

The beach area is clean and access into the sea easy and safe. The water is beautifully clear - a few people wore masks and snorkels. Water sports available, if desired.

Easy access to the pool bar (also available by a table button next to the loungers for drinks and food). As an example, on my last day I ordered a hand and cheese toastie with fries (14 euros) and glass of wine (10 euros).

Out and about To note. Taxis are reasonably priced and available via hotel reception or from the square in Elounda.

I liked to wander down to Elounda everyday. Turning right at the main hotel gates, it’s approximately a 15 minutes easy walk. Turn right at the ‘Nina’s’ sign (shown in photos) after 5 minutes should you wish to connect to the coastal path.

Lots of interesting places to see, people watch, tavernas and bars which come to life late afternoon and evening (reasonably priced).

In the morning I would always head to Elounda Bakery right in the centre (just by the square) for a coffee (the best!) and to purchase a lunch sandwich. The bakery is frequented by locals. A coffee and large sandwich or baguette is approx. 7 euros.

Supermarket- From the hotel, turn right at the main gates and head along the main road (ignoring the Nina’s sign) if you want to go to the Euromart supermarket for large bottles of water and other supplies (less than 10 minute walk). To note, Euromart can deliver to the hotel gates if required and even have a WhatsApp number to call for orders. ‘Blend’ next door also offers sandwiches, salads and coffees etc.

As a day out, I walked from the hotel to Plaka (50 minutes along the coastal path). At some points it lacks a pavement but felt perfectly safe and car drivers were considerate. Plaka is worth a visit as was a trip to Spinalonga (highlight of the week) via small boat from Plaka (10-12 euros plus 20 euros entry fee to the island). I enjoyed a late lunch and drinks at Isla’s Bar with other visitors in Plaka before returning to the hotel via taxi (20 euros).

Overall a very relaxing and enjoyable vacation. In my opinion the hotel is best placed for easy access into Elounda. The staff really make this hotel exceptional and I would highly recommend.

Slightly disappointing in parts

Mixed feelings about the hotel. The grounds, beach, pool area are lovely. We had prebooked a taxi from the hotel but that didn't turn up so we had to make our own way which was frustrating. The 1st room we had was not good, very dated and 2 single beds even tho we were booked into a double room so we requested a change. We had booked half board which means you get evening buffet only. Very average food and definitely not 5star quality. The other restaurants in the hotel are excellent tho. Outside the hotel, Elounda Bay is great with lots of shops, bars & restaurants and an easy 15mins walk. My advice, book bed & breakfast. Generally, staff were nice and our housekeepers were very good.
