Enorme Maya Beach Resort

Just returned from a week at the Enorme Maya Hotel and to be honest I’m happy to be home!! The positives are the staff who are all lovely and polite. The food was ok - enough choice but not always warm. The à la carte experience was the highlight of the stay. We ate out on several evenings as we were with a large group who were staying in various locations. Now for the negatives; the room I was given was dark, dingy and mould in the bathroom made it an unpleasant experience. The bath towels are not fit for purpose and need throwing away. One positive was that the bed was comfortable and the linen clean and white. I had paid extra for a sea view. My sea view was overshadowed by a hugely unattractive area where broken furniture was stored, it was appalling. I was eventually moved to a better room but it took 3 days. The outdoor areas are in need of a lot of tlc, the wood around the pool area is very tired and the bean bag chairs which are dotted everywhere are ripped and dirty (at least 50% of them). The so called gym is a health and safety risk (rusty) and the games area is a joke. There is a table tennis table on a patch of dirt and a dart board attached to a tree trunk!! No proper dining area, all tables are crammed together and when we had a storm some tables were brought into reception where you had to dine. Numerous people were complaining during our stay and I am in agreement with them all that this is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel, 2/3 star at best in its current state. The pictures that Jet 2 have on their website were definitely taken in 2017 when the hotel had a refurb, looks like nothing has been updated since.

If you come out of the hotel and walk 10/15 mins you can find a decent selection of tavernas and bars, everywhere you go the Cretan people are wonderful and the food has been amazing. Also, the taverna next to the hotel is lovely and friendly. Please note though that outside the hotel the area is very run down; empty properties, pavements are uneven with broken drain covers; the road outside the hotel leading to the centre has been cordoned off as the road has disintegrated. It really is not the quaint Greek experience I envisioned when booking with Jet 2 who I feel have mid-sold me this holiday.

Hotel staff are excellent, friendly and professional. Food choices for breakfast and dinner are very good, and plentiful. I had a massage booked at the hotel with Maria, and I can honestly say it was by far, the most relaxing and the best massage I have ever experienced, I highly recommend booking a massage on your stay, you will not regret it, I feel so much better for it. Thank you Maria & Iafose. Now about the hotel, our room was ground floor with decking outside and private, the room itself was big enough with a large comfortable bed, the room was a little dark and outside light was not working but did not impact our stay . There is plenty of plugs in the room, however the wall mirror was large enough but too high up on the wall to sit and apply makeup or do your hair, needs lowering. There was alot of black gunge around the frame of the shower, and an unpleasant smell kept appearing from I believe the drains in the bathroom, it would dissappear for a little while but then reappear, I sprayed the bathroom daily to try and combat the smell. We did observe on the first couple of days that guest leave their towels on sunbeds even when not in use, made me laugh! The weather has been very poor rain, cloudy and windy, which does impact yr holiday, however our stay here has been lovely, due to the helpful friendly staff, the hotel is near a few bars, restrurants that all serve good quality food and very reasonably priced. The local people are lovely and friendly. The beaches are sandy, but unable to access due to the very poor weather conditions and flooding. A car is a must to explore this area and roads are very good. The only downfall to our holiday was the bad weather conditions which cant be helped but as someone who loves to sunbathe with a good book it did spoil it somewhat.
