Abaton Island Resort and Spa

The location of Abaton spa hotel is only a 25 min walk to Hersonissos. The hotel will call taxis for you but you can be waiting over 40 mins. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed (until the swarms of children appear) The room we booked was one with a private pool and a bedroom upstairs. The bath is in the living-room and the shower has no privacy from the bedroom upstairs, so don’t book if you’re not a couple. Although the room was clean on arrival, the bed is really comfortable. The room service is non existent, your mini bar will not be restocked no matter how many times you ask. The housekeeping will leave your patio doors open and your front door open, so forget security. The breakfast is lively, loads of choice. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel mainly due to them advertising it as not suitable for children, yet over half the guests had small children. With no activities or suitable areas. While you are trying to have a relaxed peaceful spa break you will have children dive bombing the pool, screaming and running around, having temper tantrums at midnight and young teenagers screaming round the complex and private pools with no supervision. I feel this hotel needs to commit to one or the other, either adults only which is the vibe they are selling or have facilities and entertainment for children in the public areas. If I had known most guests had children I would not have booked this hotel.

We were a family of 7 5 adults a 17 an a 12. Reception welcome was very nice. We stayed 2 nights in 3 rooms type Abaton Collection Suite with Sharing pool. Rooms are very comfortable KING size beds and large you can see the sea from the room but cannot see it from the pool as the next building is in the way. Had some minor problems like the window curtains did not close all the way and was not fixed. Played tennis in a good clay court which is included in the room price. The hotels main building is beautiful and has great seats to view the coast and private hotel beach. Everywhere in the hotel pool and beach there is a lot of space and it is quiet. The private beach stretches over few hundred meters and has great beach beds but you can go in to the water in a small part due to rocks 9like in most northern beaches) and there is no sand. Very good breakfast with very rich buffet, can order omelet and good greek coffee free of charge. We did have some sitting problems, I expected that the hotel would pre arrange a table for us 7 (like done for us in other hotels during this visit) as it requires some arrangement however we found ourselves in a not so nice and not hospitable discussion with the breakfast manager till we were able to convince them to set for us a table outside on the non sunny terrace. The SPA, we were told when making the reservation, it is included in the room price, which was not cheap and you could expect such when you read the name of the hotel (&SPA)... it was not included. On top we learned it is a small SPA so we couldn't go few together. This is very inconsistent with how big the size of this hotel... We were allowed in the indoor pool which is very nice and heated. All the facilities are in very good condition and welcoming, Gym was also good.
