Lagas Aegean Village

A great location, but sadly not a 4-star experience

It’s always difficult writing a negative review, especially when there are some genuinely good things about this hotel. The location is fantastic, it’s close to a lovely beach, and the pool is absolutely amazing, with plenty of sunbeds available.

Unfortunately, though, the negatives really do start to add up — particularly when you’ve waited all year for your holiday and are expecting the standard you would reasonably associate with a 4-star hotel.

The rooms are probably the biggest disappointment. They clearly haven’t been updated for a long time and, on our stay, weren’t cleaned and tidied to the standard you would expect. Even basic things like shower gel and shampoo constantly needed to be requested rather than being replaced as part of the normal room service. The bath is also extremely deep, making getting in and out quite difficult and potentially dangerous, especially for anyone with mobility issues.

Then there’s the WiFi — or should I say the complete lack of it! 😂 When you can actually connect, it’s unreliable and painfully slow. In this day and age, that really shouldn’t be an issue in a 4-star hotel.

The food is another area where improvement is desperately needed. It becomes very repetitive, and even the lunch bars seem to serve much of the same thing day after day. What’s particularly strange for a Greek hotel is the lack of Greek-style food and entertainment. You come to Greece expecting at least a taste of Greek culture, but sadly there was very little of it.

The evening entertainment was, quite frankly, disappointing and nowhere near what I would expect from a 4-star hotel. There is so much potential to make the evenings enjoyable, particularly by incorporating some proper Greek entertainment, music and food.

One thing that absolutely deserves recognition, however, is the waiter staff. They are genuinely amazing. They work incredibly hard, remain friendly and helpful, and deserve a huge amount of credit. At times, it was uncomfortable watching the owners constantly on their backs while they were working so hard. The staff themselves certainly aren't the problem.

The beach being so close is another big positive, although it is disappointing that you have to pay separately for the sunbeds.

None of these things individually would necessarily ruin a holiday. But when you put them all together — tired rooms, inconsistent cleaning, poor WiFi, repetitive food and very disappointing entertainment — they become difficult to overlook.

It’s such a shame because the hotel has so much going for it. The location is excellent, the pool is fantastic, the beach is close and the staff are wonderful. With some investment, better standards of housekeeping, more varied food and entertainment that actually embraces the fact that you're in Greece, this hotel could be so much better.

Sadly, for us, it simply didn’t feel like the 4-star experience we were expecting. And when you spend a whole year looking forward to your holiday, that’s a pretty disappointing thing to realise once you arrive.

This hotel deserves an honest shout-out as being one of THE best we have ever stayed in for its size and capacity. For a property so big , it should have been chaos- but it wasn't. 1)Check-in I saw someone say that they were asked to leave their luggage outside reception when checking in which they found strange. Not strange at all considering this is to make the check in process smoother and the luggage is put in the shuttle to assist you to the room . A smooth check in process we thought , particularly as we arrived late at night. More time to enjoy the bar !! 2) Rooms We were on level 4, room 476 and it was spotless, cleaned daily when we wanted it, if we did not, the maid asked us which parts we would like doing ie. bin, towels . The rooms are what you would expect for a hotel, no fuss decor but very smart. The view from the balcony- just WOW!. Thank goodness for the shuttle bus , the room was very high up, we walked down the steps every day but could never face going up . 3) The restaurant I know some people have a problem with the dress code for men- long trousers at dinner but this is for a good reason. Some people would just turn up fresh off the beach in swimwear and think this is appropriate for formal dining and it IS NOT. It is called STANDARDS . You have to pay for water at meal times, yes a little more expensive than at the pool bar. They are a business not a charity. Drink wine instead ( this you have to pay for also but very nice ). Food is plentiful. Always at least 3 meat options, 2 fish and lots of veg pasta etc, even had a carvery roast on most nights. Desserts are to.die.for. The staff are all lovely. yes , some a little stern until they get to know you but then will do anything for you if you approach them in the right way, you know, the way you would want to be treated..Special mention to Mento- waitering in the restaurant- always smiling and ready with coffee top-ups in the morning . 4) The pool bar and snack bar All the staff are really friendly, they can take some time to suss you out but this is understandable , given the number of people who come through the hotel, some may not be very friendly and they don't know this initially. Once acquainted, hey are really lovely people, taking time to get to know you and chatting with you. Shout out to Mikel and Nikolas- wonderful young respectful men. If you are right with them, they reciprocate- simple. The service in the snack bar is mid way between self service and waiter service. Order at the counter, pay at the cashier and sit down. The food is brought to you and it works very efficiently. 5)Beach Yes you have to pay, but almost all beaches in Europe are " pay beaches" and have been for some time. Most of the beach spaces are rented from the municipality and are someones livelihood. This beach was peaceful and reasonably priced. The shore line is rocky in places so some might want to wear beach shoes but we didn't , just have to be careful and not have one too many ouzo before you decide to swim ! 6)On-site shop Stocks just about everything you might need for your stay but no drinks in the fridge . Understandable. If there was a drinks fridge , people would buy from there and not from the pool bar. All in all, everything at the Aegean Village was well organised and clean. We will return just as soon as we can. Thank you to everyone there !

Amazing well run and organised holiday village .staff are polite and friendly great location near to airport and across the road from beach with reasonable priced sunbeds Rooms and clean and modern can't fault it and would return and recommend to friends Asked for rooms close to wack other and got adjoining which was great There however a lot of steps !! But has a speedy bus service that can also be called to take you down to restaurant
