We had a mixed stay at Cooks Club Kolymbia. There are definitely some things we really enjoyed, but also quite a few areas that we felt let the hotel down.

The positives

The food was consistently really good, and the pools are fantastic – huge, with a great depth. The sunbeds were comfortable, there was a good selection of cocktails and the live entertainment was genuinely excellent.

Some of the staff were also lovely and remembered us throughout our stay. A special mention to the red-haired girl, who was always friendly and welcoming.

The negatives

For us, the biggest issue was the lack of atmosphere. Despite being marketed as a social and lively hotel, there was no music around the pool and it often felt very quiet.

Getting a sunbed after 8am was difficult, despite the hotel having a sign saying belongings would be removed after 15 minutes. This wasn't monitored, which was frustrating. Every time I tried to get a clean pool towel, there was never any left.

Our first room was much smaller and darker than expected from the photos. We were given two single beds pushed together with separate duvets, despite booking a double as a couple. The room was next to the reception/working area, so it was very noisy in the mornings with vehicles coming in and beeping. The balcony was also above the kitchen, meaning no real view, lots of noise and kitchen smells. To their credit, the hotel did move us to a ground-floor room when we raised this.

The hotel's social media also feels very influencer-focused, which actually made me consider cancelling before we arrived as it made me feel very insecure about going. I think showing more realistic guests and the actual atmosphere would be helpful. It is very 'influencer' but 'normal' people do go too!

The evening entertainment area is poorly laid out. The acts were very good, but the layout almost separates the entertainment from everyone else, making it difficult to create an atmosphere or get people dancing.

We also found some staff interactions disappointing, with a few members of staff coming across as quite rude or abrupt.

We were half board, but there were only two dinner choices each evening. If you didn't like either, you had to pay extra for something else. For a 5★ resort, we expected more choice.

Water also wasn't included or replenished with the room clean, and there wasn't anywhere to refill bottles.

One day after rain, the pool cushions had been removed. Once the sun came out, we were told the pool was closed and couldn't get a clean towel, despite there being no clear information on the website or around the pool. I asked what the options were of what to do instead then, and got told I could sit at the pool bar. Not ideal for the amount we paid to be there. Later, more guests came out and asked for the cushions to be put back, but were told no and ended up getting them themselves.

Finally, there are QR codes for absolutely everything– menus, entertainment information, etc. It became quite frustrating when sometimes you just want to pick up a menu or quickly see what's happening.

Overall

There are definitely positives – great food, fantastic pools, comfortable sunbeds and excellent entertainment. However, we felt there was a noticeable gap between the hotel's online image and the actual experience.

For a 5★ resort, we expected better atmosphere, service and attention to detail. There is a lot of potential here, but unfortunately we probably wouldn't return.
