Real Silence in the Silent City
An oasis within the oasis of the “Silent City”. During the evening it lives up to its title but tour groups make it often frenetic during the day, but if you are staying here you escape the frenzy as soon as you walk through the door, often anticipated by the helpful staff so you don’t even need to open the door. Inside it is cool , clean and elegant. Staff cannot do enough to help but at your pace never impinging on the guests. I may be overly impressed by the upgrade to Presidential Suite, but I think not, the whole place was massively impressive, not least the Michelin starred restaurant which delivered one of the finest meals I have ever enjoyed. One word of warning, all the rooms are different (we had a tour to plan the next stay!), and the grades don’t realistically reflect those differences, it is well worth getting a detailed description of each room. Our particular thanks to Silvia, the front office manager who was endlessly helpful.
Wonderful stay in Mdina
We absolutely loved this hotel! From the moment we arrived and were warmly greeted by Matthias, we knew we had made the right choice. We were immediately ushered in and welcomed with a glass of champagne.
Since we arrived a bit early, they safely held our luggage while we explored the area, and by the time we returned, our bags had already been placed in our rooms. The rooms themselves were stunning and beautifully appointed.
Breakfast on the upstairs terrace was a major highlight. There was an incredible variety of food and options, with fantastic coffee selections. We also had the pleasure of dining at one of the hotel's Michelin restaurants, The Medina, which was an wonderful experience from start to finish.
One of our afternoons, after touring all morning, we decided to visit their off-site swimming pool, the hotel manager, Dennis, personally offered us a ride—making for a truly lovely afternoon.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Mdina. We had a truly wonderful stay!
Secret Gem!
The best hotel we ever stayed in, excellent room no.15, great staff and the service is just perfect, so is the setting. We were checked in by Maureen (Trainee her badge said), perfect job and better then what you get in most other 5 star hotels from experienced staff, and that for a trainee! Breakfast is lovely and the view is just amazing. Strongly recommend both restaurants on site as well and a little relaxing trip to the pool!
There is exceptional hospitality and then there is the Xara Palace
During a weeklong visit to Malta, we stayed two nights at this wonderful hotel. Its location within Mdina was superb allowing for evening strolls through the old city. The hotel itself was a combination of history and elegance interwoven with exceptional hospitality. We experienced the hospitality from each and every member of the staff that we encountered, including Dennis, the hospitality director. The saying “home away from home” 100% applied at the Xara Palace. By coincidence we met Justin Zammit Tabona, the managing director, who shared how he and his sister are committed to preserve Mdina’s culture as a gift for future generations. What a wonderful, relaxing, and inspirational stay!

Xara Palace is a 17th-century palazzo built into Mdina's ancient bastions, and it was the ideal place to end our honeymoon. Our Executive Suite had a private veranda overlooking the entire city, and we could have stayed out there all evening.
We only dined once, at the hotel's Michelin-starred rooftop restaurant, and it was unforgettable. Every course was beautiful, the service was flawless, and the setting was magical. We also happened on an art exhibition at the hotel that night, which made a special evening feel even more so.
Warm, attentive, family-run hospitality throughout. It was the most memorable last night we could have asked for. Highly recommended. Special thank you to Denis Jin Young L. Director of Hospitality for his superb attention to detail.
