The positives
We spent a week at this hotel on an all-inclusive basis, and there were definitely some positive points.
The bar staff, cleaners and restaurant staff were very, very polite and friendly. They were always pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the reception staff. A little more friendliness and a smile would make a big difference. In fact, the cleaners showed such a great attitude that I would happily see some of them promoted to reception!
The rooms were amazing and cleaned every day, which was one of the best things about our stay. They were kept very clean and tidy.
The views were also amazing and definitely one of the highlights of the hotel.
The negatives
Unfortunately, there were quite a few things that could be improved.
The food was the biggest disappointment. The selection was more or less the same every day, with very little variety. On some occasions, the salad even had an unpleasant smell, which made us question whether it was being reused.
For an all-inclusive hotel, I also found the drinks selection quite disappointing. There were only two cocktails included, while many other drinks and items required an additional payment. Even more frustrating, payments could only be made by card, with no cash option.
After 6 pm, even snacks were no longer included in the all-inclusive package, which I found particularly disappointing, especially when travelling with children.
The air conditioning in the room was very old and simply did not do the job. We were extremely hot during our stay, and this made sleeping and relaxing in the room quite uncomfortable.
The entertainment team was another weak point. There wasn’t a lot happening, and for a hotel of this size, I expected much better organisation and entertainment.
This was especially noticeable when it came to children’s activities. I have three children and have stayed in many other hotels, so I have something to compare it with. In my experience, the children’s entertainment and activities here were quite poor for a hotel of this size. There simply wasn’t enough for children to do.
Overall
There are definitely some good things about this hotel, particularly the clean rooms, beautiful views and lovely restaurant, bar and cleaning staff. However, there are several areas that need improvement, especially the food variety, air conditioning, all-inclusive offering, entertainment and children’s activities.
With better organisation and some investment in these areas, I think this hotel could provide a much better experience for families.
A hotel in the middle of nowhere. Refrigerator not working in the room, damaged bed, iron not working. Despite reporting these defects, they have not been removed. Meals are almost the same every day. I will not be returning to this hotel in the future.
The hotel facilities are outdated but still reasonably functional. The service is decent enough, though not particularly fast. There are always plenty of available spots at both the beach and the pool. It is generally clean everywhere. There is no entertainment program, no sports activities, and virtually no cultural experiences. The "Do Not Disturb" and "Make Up Room" signaling system works erratically. "Check-out" means that from that moment on, you pay for everything yourself (water, sunbeds), even if you have an all-inclusive stay.
Where do I start. Probably from 5 years of experience coming here with my family and never being let down.
Yes, there are faults but show me a hotel that doesn’t have any.
This sprawling hotel is for us amazing but then we are Maltese Brits and know Malta well and can appreciate things that Malta and the UK lack.
We have only been here 24 hours and first thing I would say is it’s consistent. The hotel grounds are 5 star. I mean for Malta you will NOT get views from the pools or from balconies like this unless you are paying several budgeted pounds a night.
Yes Paradise Bay Resort is a little out of the way. By god. It’s 5 minutes in a taxi to Melliheah. It’s a small island. We travelled from our home in Marsaskala and it took 45 minutes. It takes me 45 minutes to go from Reading to Slough in England. Trust me this 45 minutes is far more enjoyable.
The rooms are so comfortable. Yes there are dents on chairs and the desks look like from the 90s but that no different to every hotel i visit anywhere in the world. Can you imagine the cost to replace ever but if dented furniture! The hotel is a business which needs to turn over a profit of some kind. But like many UK establishments, I worry the profit is minimal and more likely loss leading and as a result if this place ever closed it would be a disaster for people like us that want a pool, some air con and some good food.
The buffet, well it may get boring after a week but that’s the same as any Spanish or Greek hotel,. What do you want a daily menu with no relation after a well. Well get real, that doesn’t exist.
For my honest review location and view 5/5, the pools 5/5, the restaurant food 4/5. The room well for us a solid 4/5. 2 kids in one room with two adults and we have space and comfy area with air con and English tv channels and a great view, yes not of the pool as that’s more expensive and was out of our budget but if Comino and Gozo.
Arrived at 13.30pm-we were told our rooms were not ready and wouldn't be until 15 00, we asked if we could have lunch as we were full board plus, but we were told no we would have to wait until dinner at 18.30. So had to buy lunch from the bar. Not a great start!! When we finally checked in the room was dated, especially the bathroom, but clean. And the Seaview room we had been given did have a Seaview but with a noisy road in-between with buses going up and down day and night. You only have the option to eat in the main dining room as part of the full board option-the other restaurants you had to pay to eat in and everywhere used card not cash, including the only shop on site or near to the hotel-which was very expensive. The food was the same every lunch time and dinner-chips, minimal veg, pasta and salads, very minimal choice. The desserts were very nice though...There is the option of one beer and red, white, rose wine on tap. That is it!!! The hotel has entertainment most nights in the form of a man playing the organ, if you want anything more or a change of scenery-there is nothing AT ALL, by the hotel. You have to rely on buses or taxi to take you to the nearest town of Maleliah, which is beautiful!! I would recommend Malta itself-the beaches, scenery and people are lovely. But I would avoid this hotel, it is a 3 star hotel at best and does not have enough in the hotel or around it, to ensure a good family holiday. Disappointed!!
