Situated between Sliema and St. Julian's, the Plaza Regency Hotel is within walking distance of both towns' bustling centers and just a short stroll from one of Malta's best rocky beaches. The hotel is approximately a 20-minute drive from Malta International Airport.
After arriving in Malta, my partner and I went to check into the hotel. When we entered the room, there was a foul odor; it was even worse in the bathroom—there was mold everywhere, including on the bedroom ceiling, along with clumps of hair that didn't belong to us. The roller blind was broken, as was the fridge. I reported this to the reception, but they refused to do anything about it. I then asked to speak to the manager, who came to take a look with us; I told him the situation was unacceptable and a health risk, especially since I have asthma. The manager started shouting at us, insisting it wasn't that bad. Aside from that, the cleaning staff does nothing but replace the towels. Want to borrow a beach towel? That costs 2 euros per towel. The breakfast is exactly the same every single day. I would think twice before booking this hotel; the soundproofing is poor, the atmosphere is unpleasant, and the pool (or rather, the tiny pool) is filthy. I find the way the manager speaks to guests completely unacceptable. I will never, ever come back here; this ruined a large part of our holiday.
Excellent hotel. The staff are brilliant and when I arrived I didn’t like my sea view room and they changed me to a better sea view room straight away.
During my stay at Regency Hotel I can say that the experience was overwhelmingly positive and exceeded my expectation, the reception staff were extremely polite and professional from the moment we arrived and the buffet breakfast was very extensive and of excellent quality . The best part for me was definitely the rooftop pool, with a spectacular view. I will definitely come back to this hotel for my next stay in Malta
There are 2 check in desks which is a little confusing split by a small side road. We went to the wrong one first having dragged our cases up around 8/9 steps only to be told the reception for our part of the hotel is the other side of the road. The little lift wasn’t working so again had to drag the cases up the stairs.
Check in was seamless, however the receptionist was not the happiest of people or informative giving absolutely no information of the hotel, pool, bars or breakfast. We had paid for breakfast and our room cards showed room only. When queried was told this could not be rectified until a supervisor was on duty in the morning. This was however sorted the following day.
The hotel has a quirky layout - it’s basic but functional and exceptionally clean. There are various lifts which take you to different parts of the building. This isn’t so much a complaint as there are separate parts to the building I would have given due to the architectural structure. An annoyance is there are no service lifts (it appears) so staff including maintenance and cleaning staff with their equipment use these lifts which are quite small and you may have to wait a little while for a lift.
We booked 3 studio apartments, these are so spacious, 2 single beds pushed together with large bathrooms with a bath and shower. Cooking facilities, dining table with 4 chairs, 2 small sofa chairs, large dressing table, TV, wardrobe and a safe. 2 balcony chairs and little table. All appeared recently refurbished. We had floors 2,3,6 and all had wonderful views of the bay. Floor 6 views were spectacular.
We decided to have a recce of the hotel and found the roof top bar and pool area. It’s a shame the reception didn’t explain this area, the opening times and how to access to roof or restaurant. There is an indoor pool which was closed with the website clear this for winter months.
The pool and sunbathing areas are lovely we chose each day the one away from the pool and the music was not loud at all.
The breakfast buffet is okay - nothing exceptional a selection of hot and cold foods, cereals fruit yogurts etc.. not the best quality however.
This is definitely a 3* hotel - our rooms were definitely the best part of the hotel. The location has good bus links and the Bolt app was useful for taxis. Nice restaurants on the door step and the bay was fun to swim in.
Air conditioning is great, it only works however when the room key is inserted into the power slot, balcony / windows are closed and door to room is closed and then with it on. So if you leave your room it will automatically go off.
Overall this is a nice hotel - comfortable beds, very clean throughout, pool and sunbed area are relaxing and no issue getting a lounger in peak summer. I would have given a higher score but the lifts let this place down,
Would never go there again . The entrance was through a run down bar . We arrived at 3am and although they do not recommend drinking the tap water there was no bottled water provided on arrival. Erratic house cleaning . I didn’t like the uninspiring pool area . On a positive note the hotel was excellent for public transport . Nice sea view from our balcony. Breakfast mediocre.
