Classic elegance, rich furnishings and a unique, boutique style elevates the Victoria Hotel in Sliema to one of Malta's finest places to stay. It has a timeless elegance to it, and a traditional service ethic too, so you'll always be very well received and impeccably looked after.
Located in an elevated position on a hill in the heart of Sliema – one of the favourite destinations for holidaymakers – the Victoria Hotel is only a short distance to the seafront promenade – this is where Sliema lives and breathes – in its spectacular coastline, its array of shops and entertainments, and its friendly people.
As well as giving you the opportunity to explore Sliema, and the rich cultural heritage of the nearby capital, Valetta, the Victoria Hotel offers you every opportunity to relax. Benefiting from a quiet location and superb spa facilities, this is somewhere you can really take things easy.
Every care has been taken to make the Victoria Hotel spa as enticing and as luxurious as possible. At the end of the day we do recommend a visit to the intimate Penny Black Bar, to luxuriate in the exquisite armchairs and while away the evening. Perfection!
Like Sliema, the Victoria Hotel manages to give you a little bit of both sides of Malta. In its refined setting and furnishings, you get a taste of the great devotion to hospitality and a hint of the past; while its facilities bring you right up-to-date.
The hotel is suitable for guests with mobility issues, but please note the hotel is located on a slope.

The Victoria Hotel is a superior 4-star hotel, located in quiet peaceful surroundings, situated in the heart of Sliema and a few minutes walk from the popular and picturesque seafront promenade.
Sliema offers excellent shopping, open air cafeterias, restaurant and bars and is only fifteen minutes drive away from Valletta or accessible by ferry.
The AX Victoria is a fantastic place to stay for your first time in Malta. This was my first solo trip and I have never felt more relaxed and comfortable. The location is fantastic to both Valetta and St Julian’s. The atmosphere on the rooftop pool was amazing, music and friendly staff. One staff member I would like to acknowledge is Ashni, without her warm and caring nature towards me, I could have found my solo experience in Malta completely different, she was extremely helpful on how to get round Malta and the best places to go - Everytime I was greeted by Ashni, she always smiled and was very polite - she made a point of getting to know her guests and remembering about them, I didn’t have to move once for my drinks 😁 Thank you Ashni - you are amazing!
We went to Malta for the first time in July for a short break, to celebrate significant birthdays and to see if we would like to return at a later date. We loved it. The hotel is in Sliema and was lovely. A short walk to the seafront where local transport was in abundance. The staff were kind and thoughtful wishing my other half a happy birthday leaving wine in the room and gifting vouchers for cocktails. We went B&B and the breakfasts were plentiful and varied. I also have dietary needs and these were catered for without fuss. We booked an evening meal in their sister hotel (attached) AX Palace and it was lovely and the chef was extremely attentive to my needs and walked me around the entire buffet to explain everything. They even gave me a special dessert without even asking (thoughtful). AX Victoria when we were there were undergoing renovation work in their spa area, so this meant we were unable to use the lift on our floor but we walked through and adjoining door to their sister hotel and used their lift so it was never a problem. We only encountered noise on one day when we were a bit later leaving our room, so to be honest it was never a problem. The AX Victoria is a lovely hotel we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the staff, from the chambermaids, bar staff, waiters and of course front of house we thank you for making our birthdays and stay enjoyable
Extremely disappointing customer service from a 4-star hotel. The hotel did not respond to our messages. When we finally got through, communication in English was very difficult. Only after our call did the hotel respond to the messages sent the previous day. By then, the cancellation deadline had passed. I understand cancellation policies, but ignoring a guest while there is still time to cancel and then charging them after the deadline has passed is extremely disappointing.
Very poor communication and customer service. Definitely not what I would expect from a 4-star hotel.
We had a wonderful 2 week holiday here. The facilities were excellent - pool, bars, gym and room. Great location to enjoy Sliema and at the pool views of the sea and Valletta. Everywhere was vey clean and absolutely all staff were friendly and helpful. We will miss the lovely variety of delicious food for breakfast.
Visit 68 was for 10 nights in May & Visit 69 was for 17 nights in July. We had our usual room on the 6th floor for both visits. The first thing we noticed in July was the loud noise coming from the 7th floor, it transpired that the indoor pool area was undergoing refurbishment and is due for completion at the end of July. This was an ideal time to do the refurbishment as the indoor pool has less usage during summer. Any drilling was limited to one hour a day between the hours of 11am – 2pm, when most guests are away from their rooms, either at the outdoor pool or exploring Malta. This work may have annoyed some guests, who may decide not to stay at AX The Victoria again. However, all we can only say is give AX The Victoria Hotel another try it is well worth it. As usual breakfast is served in the Copperfield Restaurant, there is a wide variety of items available from omelettes (made on request),cereals, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, pancakes, Danish pastries, croissants, fruit, yogurts and much more. For guests on HB dinner is still being served in the Tabloid Restaurant (in the 5* AX The Palace Hotel). This will change when we return for Visit 70 in November as AX The Palace Hotel closes in November for 5 to 6 months for a full refurbishment so both breakfast and dinner will be taken in The Copperfield Restaurant. In our previous reviews we have advised about the changes AX Hotels have made to become greener, replacing single use bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion with refillable pump bottles, we didn’t think there was anything else they could do, however since leaving in May to returning in July the hotel has replaced the laminated signs, for Please clean my room/Do not disturb, Filtered water with our compliments, Change of bed linen/Change of towels to wooded signs (see attached photos). Not only is AX The Victoria a great hotel which has the most amazing staff, who are always happy to assist and help guests in any way they can, it is also ideally located for travelling around Malta. From Sliema you can access buses to Valletta and to the North and South of Malta. You can also catch the ferry to Valletta from the Strand, and since the beginning of May you can also catch a fast ferry to Gozo
