Grand Hotel Excelsior

Arrived a day late due to a cancelled jet2 flight, phoned ahead and hotel confirmed rooms still booked, booked another flight out with easyjet the next morning, arrived to be told the room was available, then 5 days into the holiday 2 managers and a security guard came into our rom whilst asleep at 11pm telling us we owed £4,000 as jet2 5 days on had cancelled the hotel room, completely contradicted what the reception had said when we checked in, spoke with numerous staff all clueless and then the general manager who was zero use as he was only bothered about him being paid instead of sticking up to jet2, so we had to check oput and pay a hotel room bill at high rates and much more than the whole holiday originally cost, really poor ettiquete from the hotel staff and general manager. weirdly enough numerous other couples in the same predicament were allowed to check out without having to pay for their rooms, so complete discrimination not to mention envasion of privacy not even compensated for when rudely awoken by staff coming into your room when asleep naked in bed, shocking behaviour.

My family stayed at the Grand Excelsior Hotel in Valletta during August 2026. It was an amazing holiday. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The facilities are excellent. The pool is beautiful. Cleanliness is top of their agenda. It's spotless throughout. Location wise it's ideal. Right next to the harbour and a 6 minute walk to the town Very close to the ferry's. So much room in the hotel so you never feel crowded. Highly recommend. We will be returning.

On arrival we were welcomed with a fruity mocktail which was gratefully received with the 30c heat outside at 11pm. The room was very clean and included all the amenities you could wish for as well as robes and slippers. The little chocolates placed on the pillow every night was a nice touch. The hotel provides one free bottle of water per person per day to either use for tea and coffee or alternatively place in the freezer section of the room fridge ready for the following day out. The pools were clean and we never had any trouble finding a sun bed both near the pool and the small beach. You can dry your clothes on the balcony/chairs provided. The breakfast buffet catered for all and included little Maltese Pastizzis (ricotta and pea) which were very delicious. We enjoyed our breakfast very much. The steps outside the hotel are a killer in the heat, however the hotel shuttle can take you up the steep bank to Valletta. The hotel itself is close to Valletta’s main bus terminal and the Ferry crossing to Sliema. We absolutely loved our stay and cannot fault it. All staff were friendly and helpful. We hope to visit again one day.
