Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We arrived around 2pm to be told check in wasn't until 5pm, my fault I didn't realise. We ate at the main pool bar by reception which was nice. Later walked a distance to our apartment which was in the 700's, found it grubby, needed a paint, clean....frying pans were disgusting. Walked back to reception to complain, showed reception lady videos on my phone I had taken. She said she could move us the following day and clean the apartment for the one evening, we agreed. I said we wouldn't be waiting until 5pm the following day to check in again, reception lady said people had to be out by 11am so i said I'd be back at midday as I wasn't waiting.
Later another phone call to say they had found another apartment for the night and so we moved again. By now its 9pm and with our 4 children we went to the pizza restaurant on site to be told it was ticket only and they would not serve us. Went to the main restaurant and was asked if we were half board, we were not, was then told its buffet only atc20 euros ahead and for 6 of us it mean 120 euros for us to eat at 9.30ish, too late for our children . Ended up going to the Spar and bought bread, ham and cheese for toasties back at our apartment. The following morning another phone call to say they didn't want to move us, we hadn't unpacked or bought any groceries so we insisted on a move.
I had emailed weeks ago asking for our 3 apartments to be close together but they couldn't have been further apart.
Would we visit again.....yes but only if we booked privately and knew apartment numbers beforehand, the complex is so big my elderly mother struggled. Did ask about hiring a golf buggy but it wasnt an option. Seems many apartments are in need of an upgrade.
The green, pool and garden areas are kept immaculately, but apartments are in need of attention.
Reception lady was helpful but I think only because I was not taking no move for an answer. We wasted a day of our holiday sorting cleaner accommodation.
We went on holidays for around 8 days and we were told that our two bedroom superior apartment will be cleaned every 2 days and while our time here it has only been cleaned once when we told them about how our room has not been cleaned they acted surprised and told us they will come and clean (which they did not). We got the half board so we had breakfast and dinner which the breakfast was repetitive and very little choice and mostly English food as for the dinner it was changed every day but during both meals the food was always cold and sometimes even stale. The staff was acting like they did not want to come and ask for your order and if they did it looked like they really didn't want to serve you. They were always giving you looks and taking there time to come and give your order. Most staff acted like they hate their job or hate tourists. The complex is probably the nicest thing here from the pools to just the plants as both of these have been well kept and always the highest quality which only applies to the complex and NOT the service.
Lovely apartment in beautiful grounds. Very friendly and helpful staff at reception and in restaurant. Golf Club is delightful. Staff in golf shop could not have done more to help us! Thank you. We will be back !! Thank you also to the ladies in the golf club restaurant.
I would strongly advise anyone considering staying at Balaia Golf Village in Albufeira to think twice before booking. We arrived on 29th April for a one-week stay, and our experience started badly from the moment we arrived.
The staff at reception were extremely unfriendly, unhelpful, and showed very little interest in assisting guests. Despite arriving on time, we were forced to wait around 8 hours before we were finally allowed access to our room, which is completely unacceptable.
To make matters worse, when we tried to check in, we were informed that we had to pay a €200 deposit per person. There were five of us, meaning they wanted €1,000 in deposits before we could even begin our holiday. We later discovered that other guests weren't asked to pay any deposit at all. It appears they simply pick and choose who they charge, which is unfair and inconsistent.
When we eventually got into our accommodation, the problems continued. The condition of the apartment was shocking. One of the shower heads was literally being held up on the wall with tape. TAPE. This is supposed to be a holiday resort, not a temporary construction site.
There was also a lack of basic essentials such as toilet roll and towels. When we ran out, we had to walk all the way to reception and request more. Nobody ever brought them. In the end, we had to practically beg a maid who happened to be working near our room to give us some supplies.
The pool areas were equally disgraceful. The water was full of dead bugs, leaves, and other debris. It was obvious that the pools were not being cleaned or maintained properly. It looked neglected and unhygienic. Children were swimming in that water and could easily have swallowed some of the dead insects and other creatures floating around. It was disgusting.
Finally, the issue of the deposit was handled terribly. At checkout, we were told our deposit would be returned within a few days. A few days turned into weeks. In reality, it took an entire month before we finally received our money back. Having €1,000 tied up for that length of time after a holiday is completely unreasonable.
Overall, this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we have ever had. Poor customer service, unacceptable waiting times, inconsistent deposit policies, badly maintained accommodation, dirty pool areas, and a month-long wait for our deposit refund. We will not be returning and would not recommend Balaia Golf Village to anyone.
Really nice apartment to myself , good aircon , nice pools , cheap food and wine/beer. 15 minutes walk to nearest beach , 20 mins to main town , an hour's walk to the old town then another 30 mins from there to the marina if you want to go on a dolphin search ( I went 24.05.26 and the boat trip was rough due to the wind) The sea on all the beaches is no good for swimming as the waves and currents are strong - it is the Atlantic after all - but the beaches are nice . Lovely breeze all the time made it perfect for walking. Golf course was too expensive for me - €250 a round and €80 for club hire - but the Mateus rose at €5 a bottle compensated for that . On balance was a good trip but there was very little information about local transport - bus stops everywhere but no-one knew anything about timings , tickets or prices.
