Just 150 metres from the beautiful Forte de São João beach in Albufeira, this precious hotel is located. At about 300 metres away is the public transport network. There are restaurants, pubs and a supermarket 500 metres away and nightclubs 1 kilometre away; for sport lovers, the nearest golf course is 2 kilometres away. Amongst the facilities include a pub where nights will be the funniest, a hairdressing salon, bicycle hire service, and parking possibilities. The hotel has a swimming pool area for whole family, sun loungers and parasols to get the best than. Recently renovated, this hotel comprises several flats spread over all the complex. The studios and flats are well equipped and tastefully furnished offering access to the views over the pool.
I'll start with the pros, location is great, right in between old and new town. Spacious rooms, a bit dated but suffice. No shortage of loungers, usually able to get one at any time of day. Cleaning.....cleaner comes later in the day when you're trying to get ready to go out! She ends up leaving clean towels and toilet rolls but you end up not having your room cleaned while there! Beds not made or changed either, having to ask for this to be done repeatedly! The pool area was never cleaned while we we there, the pool guy adds some chemicals in the morning but some loungers had birds dirt that were never cleaned! and spills on the floor that were there for duration. Not having a bar at pool level was always a bit of a con, although happy for you to bring own drinks/food as long as not glass.
Terrible experience that forced us to check out early.
We encountered cockroaches both in our room and in the hotel lobby.
The WiFi did not work all week during our stay. We were forced to cancel work zoom calls. Connection apparently depends on which room you are assigned, despite there being only one network for the entire hotel.
Housekeeping threw away (or took?) a pile of brand new clothes we had set aside for laundry with no apology or offer of compensation.
Despite raising these concerns, no room change was offered.
The Hotel Group Director Douglas Souza only approached us 6 days after we first reported the issues, in the last 5 minutes as we were checking out.
The only solution briefly offered was relocation to another one of their properties, (even farther from the beach) —and, as the Hotel General Manager Anabela Santos admitted, “it has even worse reviews.”
The Hotel Director said on July 25th he’d email us regarding a refund on the unused night. We followed up on July 30th, no response. It is now August 12th, still no response.
The Hotel Director does not answer guest emails. The General Manager will not take your complaints seriously. The hotel is unprofessional, unserious, dirty and in poor condition. I would avoid Luna Hotels & Resorts entirely.
Overall I would say this is an okay place for younger groups to stay.
Upon arrival we didn't have a warm welcome at all, first being told there was a €300 deposit per person but that we could pay the €300 per room instead. When I explained we hadn’t been informed of this they told us that it was “Not their problem” and pointed us towards an ATM up the road. Be aware this deposit is cash only!! We kept the apartment in immaculate condition and so received the full amount back but we did overhear other customers not receiving theirs back. Also be aware there is a fine for any noise after 10pm which will be taken off your deposit.
The room itself was nice, slightly outdated but that can be seen in the images. The bedsheets weren’t changed during our week long stay, however towels were. No cleaning was done by housekeeping other than emptying the bins, changing towels and making sure nothing was damaged/broken/dirty.
We had no problem getting sun loungers at 10am, but it did get busier by the afternoon. There was a bar which is a level up from the pool but not very popular- probably due to it being rather expensive- an iced coffee was €7 and when I went in the afternoon they had stopped doing them! There is a spar shop nextdoor which had pretty much everything you could want.
Location was very good being 5 minutes from the beach and right in the middle of the old and new town- 15 minutes walk from each.
First hearing the reviews about the “deposit scam” and €300 euros per room being taken from me and my friends we were worried about it not coming back to us, throughout our stay Douglas and his team were incredibly supportive and kind, the hotels location was perfect, 5 minutes from the beach, 20 minutes from either old or new town and it is next to a store which has great prices and a cafe which do a cheap breakfast. Me and my mates had a great time at the hotel the rooms were spacious pool was nice and big and the atmosphere was pretty chill.
We were a group of six older lads, staying two to a room. The location was good, around a 20-minute walk to both the Old Town and New Town, and only five minutes from the beach.
This isn’t really a family-oriented hotel and seems to cater more towards younger groups. During our stay, the pool area was largely occupied by teenage groups, with plenty of jumping and diving into the pool throughout the day.
The apartments are spacious, clean, and basic, making them a good base for groups. We had a sea view overlooking the pool, and there is a convenient shop and café right outside. The staff and cleaners were friendly, and the complex felt safe and secure throughout our stay. The sunbeds were decent, although they filled up quickly.
The main issue came at check-in, when the manager insisted that each guest pay a €300 cash deposit, something that had not been made clear beforehand. We felt this was excessive and, after some discussion, agreed on a more reasonable €50 per person, which was fully refunded at the end of our stay.
The hotel has potential but feels tired and in need of investment and refurbishment. The bar is located away from the pool area, which meant many guests chose to buy drinks from the shop next door instead. Service at the bar was also quite slow. We didn’t use the pool as it didn’t appear particularly clean.
Pros:
Cons:
Overall, this is a budget-friendly option that is best suited to young groups, stag parties, and hen parties. You get what you pay for, but personally, three nights was enough for us.
