We really wanted to love this hotel, as it has a lot going for it, but unfortunately there were quite a few things that let it down for us.
The positives
The pool – This was great. We spent a lot of time here during our stay and it never felt too busy or overcrowded.
The food – The tapas menu is excellent and we really enjoyed everything we ordered from it. Breakfast was good too. Unfortunately, the main lunch/evening menu didn’t quite live up to the same standard.
The negatives
Service – The reception staff were great, but unfortunately our experience with the restaurant staff was very different. We often found them unfriendly and at times felt ignored, almost as though we were an inconvenience. There was one really attentive and friendly member of staff, but I can’t remember his name.
We were travelling from the UK with two young children who don’t stay up particularly late, so we tended to have a late lunch as our main evening meal. Perhaps deviating from the usual Portuguese dining routine didn’t work in our favour, but we still expected to feel welcome whenever we chose to eat.
The daily room cleaning was also quite erratic. On a couple of days our room wasn’t cleaned at all, despite us being out for large parts of the day.
More concerningly, one day our daughter had a stomach bug and was unfortunately sick on the terrace near the pool. We informed a member of staff immediately, but no one came to clean it up. Aside from being unpleasant, we felt this was a hygiene issue, particularly around a pool area used by lots of families.
Kids’ club – This was probably our biggest disappointment and, more importantly, raised some genuine safety concerns.
We went along to one of the advertised planned activities, but unfortunately there didn’t appear to have been much planning. The activity seemed to be cobbled together on the spot and, once again, we were left with the impression that our being there was something of an inconvenience.
We were also concerned about some of the materials being used. Our young children were given UHU multipurpose adhesive during the activity, which we didn’t feel was an appropriate choice for young children. A child-safe craft glue would surely be more suitable in a kids’ club environment.
More worrying was the outdoor play area. There is a gate leading out of the area that doesn’t even close properly. At one point I witnessed children outside in this area with no adult supervision. It would only take a moment for a young child to walk through the gate and end up in the car park.
Having seen this, there is absolutely no way we would have felt comfortable leaving our own children at the kids’ club unattended. For a facility specifically aimed at children, we feel the security of the outdoor area and the level of supervision need to be looked at urgently.
Overall, there is a lot to like about this hotel. The pool is lovely, the tapas food was excellent and the reception staff were very good. But unfortunately the inconsistent service, housekeeping issues and, most importantly for us, the concerns around the kids’ club meant the experience didn’t live up to what we had hoped for.
With some attention to these areas, particularly the safety and supervision in the kids’ club, this could be a really good family hotel. But based on our experience, there are some things that definitely need to be improved.
Beautiful hotel , nice location
Pool, rooms, restaurant all , kept clean and well presented, the reception staff are wonderful, so helpful, good free bus into the towns and pick up ,
Restaurant and breakfast staff helpful and pleasant
The breakfast buffet was excellent
Only let down the aircon in room might have been dusty as every time we put it on we ended up sneezing, coughing, and headaches, within 30 mins of it being on , we ended up turning it of and leaving the balcony door open
Otherwise fantastic
Had a fabulous stay from start to finish. Staff from reception, housekeeping and bar and breakfast staff were all super friendly and helpful.
We stayed in a junior suite which was fab, large room, good decor and a retro style which was great. Hotel never felt cramped lots of space.
A real highlight was the breakfast great choice and just lovely food.
Pool never too busy, lovely bar and restaurant. Overall would highly recommend.
Just arrived, and so far very unimpressed! Received a warm and efficient welcome from reception staff, and our room was ready early which was a welcome bonus. Room spacious and clean, decor minimal but fresh, but nothing to shout really. Bus service into town and back stops at 5pm ? Not a great offering but taxis not a huge amount. Lunch / snacks: overpriced rubbish. Margarita pizza clearly a cheap frozen offering and omelette and chips very bland / non descriptive. Very little choice if you don’t eat meat. Have to trade in towel cards at reception for a pool towel. On taking ours back we were told that you’re normally expected to keep the same towel for two days ??!! No pool side service, have to get dressed and trek up to bar. Never seen 4 star services
Hotel is very quiet and peaceful, ideal for anyone who enjoys to stay in a hotel without noise. The rooms themselves are adequate. Beds very comfortable and sufficient in size. Unfortunately, the Spa service was unavailable but the reception explained this at checked in. Breakfast is located on the third floor and has lovely views. Food was plenty full and fresh. The pool area is stunning, unfortunately, I never used the pool due to weather being windy but I can imagine it is very pleasant in the hotter weather. Free parking is available. This hotel is great for those who wish to stay away from the hustle and bustle but I absolutely recommend you have a car to explore the surrounding area. All in all, a very nice hotel and well worth the 4 stars.
