The 13, 400 m2 of gardens at the Vila Porto Mare resort have created one of the most interesting botanical oasis's on Madeira island. Don’t judge a book….
Booked a s four day break with Jet2 all based on one photo and then you arrive having been terrified by your transfer driver to a tiny entrance.
Staff are very welcoming, and extremely efficient getting you booked in. Our suite was room 1301 and had an amazing see view.
Room was spacious, separate lounge, bedroom and kitchenette, beds very comfortable with window and sea view, large balcony overlooking the lido and sea.
Gardens and pool(3 outdoor, 2 indoor) are all amazing, pool bar serves excellent choices of food and beverages. Entertainment is held by the pool bar at 9pm and does not affect rooms. Restaurants are many, choice of two for breakfast, one for Buffett evening meal and a selection of specials ( need to book before travel to guarantee a table).
Hotel is approximately 3km outside Funchal and uphill (everywhere you go in Madeira is uphill!) Uber will cost approximately €6euro to Cable Car.

You go back to places for the service and facilities, this hotel is amazing in all areas, the staff are fantastic and have all the time for guests, the location is central, the gardens are well looked after, the food can't be faulted and they cater for everyone, vegetarians won't be disappointed, this should be a 5 star hotel, everything about this hotel is awesome. When you hear about people going back again and again it shows you how good this place is. Thankyou to everyone that made this holiday special.

Lovely hotel, beautiful location
Beautiful hotel, lovely decor and location is great. The site has 3 different hotels with common pools and restaurants for all the hotels. The facilities are fantastic: the biggest outdoor pool is lovely and has great surroundings and there are smaller pools, including for children and babies; the gardens are beautiful and extremely well maintained; the Atlandida restaurant where we had all our meals (we were half board) is amazing - the food is varied and delicious. The staff was very efficient and friendly. One thing to note is that if you hire a car and want to park it at the hotel, the cost is 10 euros per day but you can only have a space if there is one - I understand that you can't prebook the spaces. Parking in Funchal near the hotel if not using the hotel car park was a daily challenge for us but we found streets nearby which were free. This worked for us as we didn't mind the 8-10 mins walk. We really enjoyed our stay. The view from our balcony was lovely. The bathroom is well stocked with toiletries. The room was very clean and there was air conditioning.

Lovely lovely but with consequences
This is a really tough one for me. The hotel is absolutely amazing, the staff the amenities how clean it is , the fact that you have access to so much ,including indoor pools,table tennis crazy golf and the fact you don’t after get up a 7 am to get a sun bed which I really loved
but something didn’t quite sit right .
I’ll try to explain. Family of 3 . Food was ok on a a half board basis . We’ve had better we’ve had worse . Typical buffet style . We’ve got a 15 old but if you have younger children who are picky you might struggle, no chips nuggets etc Very quiet in the day which suited us but again if you have younger children you will struggle .
It cost us 4K for a week half board in august but the hotel is so expensive for food and drinks we relied on the well equipped supermarket literally round the corner as did so many other people.
One night we had double vodka with lemonade glass of wine and I Diet Coke for 30€!!!!!!
As a family we are not the travelling around the island people so can’t really comment on that but the pool was amazing. No beach . No real promenade apart from maybe 500 metres . If you like Italian food you are in for a treat because it’s full of them .
I asked the lovely receptionist for a a restaurant that is typically Portuguese and she suggested a resort 25 euro away in a taxi !

Really good hotel
Lovely area with quick access to the ocean and pools. Very clean. Polite, helpful staff. More than enough room to wander without feeling cramped. Lovely well maintained gardens. My family loved the whole experience.
