- Hotel Nerja Club Spa by Dorobe

This hotel is located on the edge of the holiday resort of Nerja, close to Capistrano and 1 km from the famous Burriana beach and the centre of Nerja. There is a town bus stop directly in front of the hotel. The beach hotel was built in 1984 and has a 200 m² garden. The hotel's facilities include a refined café, a bar and a conference room as well. Guests may park their cars in the car park. The en-suite rooms are well equipped with telephone, satellite TV and a safe. All rooms come with an air-conditioning system and Internet access, the majority feature a terrace. There is a pool with a spacious sun terrace. Also a golf course is 20 km away. A night-time entertainment programme is organized for the guests. On offer are breakfast and dinner in the form of a buffet. At lunchtime, the bar offers a selection of snacks from the menu.

The real score I give for this hotel is 2.5 The hotel is quite a long way from Nerja. Nerja itself is rather overrated, so after a few days and evenings of trying to find a decent restaurant and bars we turned right and right again out of the hotel instead of left and waked down the hill into Playa Burriana . It was quite chilled there with a couple of great steak houses. A few bars with tables and chairs inside and outside. I would say not suitable for young people who want loud music and dancing but we liked it. We got a taxi back up the hill at midnight because its a dark road which cost €7.50 - £6.38 . The hotel is suitable for older adults. There is nothing there for children. Not even a children’s pool. The place is lovely and quiet like us older people like. Not even music round the pool so we can concentrate on reading our books. All the other guests were lovely. Except for Monday when a wedding party of 20 to 30 guests turned up and caused havoc. Only about half a dozen of them were actual guests of the hotel, the rest were staying at other hotels but thought it was OK to invade our hotel with their unruly loud shouting kids and their drunken, foul mouthed and inconsiderate parents. We had to leave the pool area along with a lot of other guests because of the invaders behaviour. We went back to our room but couldn’t escape them because our room was right next to the area where they were all sat getting louder and louder and drunker and drunker. We tried putting the telly on to drown out their noise but our telly didn’t work. Later on we went to the bar to meet our friends for a drink before our evening out but they were sat in the bar swearing and shouting. A lot of the genuine guest left and complained to reception, including us. I tried to attach the videos but for some reason they won't upload. The hotel management must have got the message eventually because the rabble was reduced to the half a dozen that were actually guest at our hotel which thankfully didn’t include the uncontrolled kids. But they still turned up in the bar which was open to the public so we just stayed away along with a lot of other hotel guests. One day it rained and water was pouring into the bar, pouring down the walls wetting seats and flooding the floor. The gym is small but adequate for a limited work out with a weight bench and weights, a sit up bench, a good treadmill and bike. There was also a cross trainer but it was broken, rusty and unsafe. The hotel is predominantly staffed with men except for the cleaners. The men behind the bar are extremely unwelcoming, unfriendly and give the impression that customers are an inconvenience. They don’t know how to smile, put drinks in wrong glasses the drink won’t fit into and certainly don’t like it if you ask for a bigger glass. The grey haired middle aged bar tender is the worst and probably influences the younger one that it’s OK to be rude to customers. We watched some guests pointing out to the younger barman that there was no one on reception and got a right mouthful for their trouble. The room was cleaned every day which was nice and if you put your towels in the bath they give you clean ones, which was every day because the shower screen leaked water so the floor was flooded every time we had a shower. Which probably caused the floor to have tiny ants running around all the time (see attachment) we had to keep our sandal’s on.
After reporting to reception that the telly didn’t work, some one came and fixed it, so although we could get a picture it wouldn’t let us choose a channel so was unable to get an English channel so we didn’t bother telling them again. The bed was comfortable and there were extra pillows in the wardrobe that we didn’t need. It was a rare occasion where it was a double bed and not two singles pushed together so you fall down the middle so that was good. Unfortunately we didn’t get much chance to use it because the noise very early in the morning was so loud with banging doors and shouting noisy cleaners that we was unable to relax and wake up calmly like you should be able to do when on holiday. Very annoying. The breakfast although better than I was expecting going from previous reviews with egg, bacon, mushrooms bread with very good tea and coffee machines was another reason we couldn’t get up when we wanted because the breakfast times were very restricted 7am to 9.30am and everything taken away on the dot. They had a selection of bread but a couple of toasters wouldn’t have gone amiss. The pool area as I said earlier was normally a quiet calm area and the pool was lovely. Only two things spoiled it if we don’t include the drunken rabble was first the terrible flies that continuously landed on our legs and feet and bit like hell, so we were covered in bites, not sure the hotel can do anything about that. The other was the inconsiderate people who saved sunbeds by putting towels on and left them empty until mid afternoon. There are signs saying it is not allowed and that members of staff will remove them and keep them behind reception but did not, in fact I never saw a member of staff in the pool area the whole time we was there. I think some investment is needed in this hotel and also some staff training. We won’t be returning.
Nice quiet hotel, friendly staff especially on reception. The town centre and balcon de europa are walkable distance about 20 min away. Burriana beach is short distance but due to steep hill tiring to walk back in heat, ended up getting taxi for 10 euro. Decent selection of food for breakfast available. Rooms were perfect with balcony facing the the back of hotel. The mercadona is across the road, very handy. Good value for money.
We are currently staying at this hotel and very pleasantly suprised after reading negative reviews. Check in was smooth and speedy. Our room was larger than we expected, we do have an economy room but don’t need a balcony due to the very nice pool area (to follow). We could do with more coat hangers and the bathroom could do with a refurb, but everything works well, the shower is very powerful and we have a bidet. The bed is very comfortable and the room is clean with a small fridge and kettle. Breakfast again was a nice suprise, we were quite late down but there was still a good choice, pancakes and fried eggs being cooked fresh. Nice decaf coffee. I was quite disgusted sitting next to a couple, the lady was filling a shopping bag full of food wrapped in serviettes, bread and even plates and cutlery. We are not staying for evening meal so cannot comment. The pool area is very nice but guests seem to ignore the notice to not leave your towels on the subbed, we were next to two beds that had their towels on and didn’t appear until mid afternoon. The sports bar attached to the hotel is lovely, good food and drinks and happy hour two for the price of one is 4 to 6pm, a nice start to the evening. A very nice bar. To sum up our first two days, I would say that the hotel is above our expectations, some of the guests leave a lot to be desired. Do not expect 5 star luxury, enjoy the place for what it is and respect the hard working staff. Also 2 great supermarkets across the road are great to look round. Nerja is the most beautiful place and the walk into town discovering the back streets before you hit the jaw dropping Balcon is a joy, there are lovely tapas bars to be found.
We used to love this hotel and visited one or twice a year for 10 years. We loved that it was quiet and peaceful with lovely views over the pool and beyond. The walk for us into town was just right and to the beaches, Maro, the caves, and Aqueduct, just beautiful scenery but on the outskirts on Nerja so not good if you cannot walk very far. People moan about the distance to town but you should do your research. We liked that each year the staff recognised us and even a member of staff on his scooter waved to us when we were walking into town. Our room requests were always met and we felt we were valued as returning guests. Its been a few years since we visited as we have warmer climates to visit but our hearts still lie in Nerja. I do look at the reviews of this hotel periodically it saddens me that it is appears its not the place it once was. I want to come back for nostalgic reasons, would we have to pay extra for our preferred rooms now? , will any of the staff we met over many years still be there. i wonder..... should i take a gamble.......
Arrived on friday 25th sept.. Not very impressed with cleaniness of the room.. ants in my bed & floor, the guy at reception laughed & made me feel embarrassed... i have been biten, getting treatment from dr as very sore...
