Cotillo Beach

We have had a lovely week. Staff have been excellent. The room was clean. Safe was provided. Great location. We walked to the lagoons to the north and did surfing lessons on the beaches to the south. We hired bikes and cycled around. The hotel was happy to store the bikes in the left luggage area. The hotel bar Solar has live music at night and pool tables. We chose the hotel because it had a padel court and football pitch which we made plenty of use of. We had breakfast included which we enjoyed every day. El Cotillo is small but we found some lovely restaurants and bars. We thought we’d have to get the bus to Corralejo often but we only ever did that once finding enough to do in El Cotillo. We did get the bus to Lajares for the padel coaching which was regular and handy. Buses are on time and good value with a stop just behind the hotel and the main bus stand only a ten minute walk. You can basically walk from one end of the village to the other in 12 minutes. The pool bar does a lovely sangria and pina colada. The air con is very good. There is a hyperdino right next to the hotel which is very handy. On our final day we weren’t leaving until the evening so we asked for a late check out which they were able to provide even though the hotel was full due to the festival. We are grateful that they were able to give us some time. We never had issues getting sun loungers. Things which could be improved include replacing chipped mugs and bowls at breakfast and providing more shade at sun loungers and balconies. Our balcony faced west which meant we got the sun from 1pm onwards but we couldn’t use it because it was simply too hot without shade. We would also have liked water to be replaced daily in room. We got around this by filling water bottles at breakfast. Shower temperature varied. Add more bar staff in Solar. You could wait 25mins before getting served. We had a pool view room which was lovely and it was never too loud. The hotel is not massive so you’ll not get the children’s entertainment or clubs but that suited us perfectly with older teenagers who enjoyed the scheduled football and padel instead. We paid for ‘premium’ and got some wine and goodies on arrival but you are better off just paying for pool view. However, bottom line is that we would happily return to this hotel.

So we stayed for 2 weeks from mid July to the beginning of August. Firstly the hotel was lovely, it was well kept, very clean and all the staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms were cleaned daily. There was air con in the rooms, a safe which was free once you got the digital card to set it up from reception. Getting a subbed around the pool was never an issue, there were very little people putting towels down to secure places which was a welcome relief. I think their rule was if they were left unattended for 10 minutes then towels would be removed. The only downside to the pool, one of the lifeguards was challenging anyone who jumped into he pool. Even little kids which is a bit of a killjoy, but most of them didn’t mind. Let’s be honest kids love to jump into the water.

As for the food, this was probably the biggest let down for us, we had seen reviews saying it was amazing, but if I’m being honest we found it repetitive and not the greatest selection. We had a couple of fussy eaters within our group and they struggled to find different things to eat. Mainly for the younger kids, it was either pasta, pizza and chips. Only when we asked they added some nuggets to the menu but that only lasted a day. So this would be my main suggestion for improvement, also I ordered a burger for lunch, and It had hardly been cooked, very raw inside and only brown in the outside.

With all that being said we still had an amazing time and a comfortable stay, they have a tv in the room and has channels 1-5 all in English. Plus if you have a Netflix account you can always login and use it, just remember to logout when you are leaving.

Last negative for our stay was the lack of entertainment, this is something that really Lacks, especially with the resort being very quiet with little to do. An entertainment programme really would’ve broken things up and made things better for families.
