Great hotel, lovely facilities and, unfortunately, a rather impressive “every man for himself” approach to the sun loungers.
The hotel’s website clearly states: “No reservation with towels before 10am,” and the rule is prominently displayed around the pool areas. Sadly, this appears to be more of a suggestion than an actual policy, as guests are routinely reserving sun loungers from as early as 6–7am.
We’ve raised this issue several times with both the hotel and the tour operator, but so far, nothing has changed. The result is that anyone who actually follows the rules is left at a significant disadvantage, while those prepared to ignore them get the best spots.
It’s particularly disappointing because the hotel itself is very good. We’re only four days into our stay, with another ten days to go, but this completely avoidable issue has already taken some of the shine off the holiday.
So, if your idea of a relaxing holiday is setting your alarm for 6am, sneaking down to the pool with a towel and staking your claim before breakfast, then congratulations — you’ve found the perfect hotel.
Disappointing stay at Princes Fuerteventura Hotel
Unfortunately, our stay at Princes Fuerteventura Hotel was extremely disappointing, especially as this was our first holiday with our 10-month-old baby.
To begin with, I paid extra to stay in the upgraded Essencia area, only to later find out that all guests had access to this area. This made the additional cost feel completely unjustified and misleading.
The cleanliness throughout the hotel was also very poor. On our first night, after my baby had been crawling around the room, her knees and hands were completely black from the floor. This was very concerning, particularly when travelling with a young baby.
The situation in the restaurant was no better. Plates, cutlery, salt shakers and other items were often dirty, sticky and clearly not cleaned properly. I also had to clean the high chair myself every time before putting my baby in it because it was so filthy. This is completely unacceptable in a family-friendly hotel.
Another major issue was the lift in our block, which was out of order for three days. As I had a pram and a 10-month-old baby, I had no choice but to carry the pram and my daughter up and down the stairs for three days. What was particularly disappointing was that staff would walk past without even offering to help. When I raised the issue with reception, I was simply told that they were waiting for someone to come and fix it and that there was nothing else they could do. There was no real attempt to provide any alternative assistance.
The air conditioning in the room was also extremely poor, making it very difficult to sleep comfortably at night for me and my baby. There was also no effective air conditioning in the restaurant, which made meals very uncomfortable due to the heat and often put us off eating there.
The entertainment was another disappointment. There was very little happening around the pools during the day, and the daytime entertainment was poor. In the evenings, the main entertainment started around 9pm and finished at 10:30pm, with nothing happening afterwards. The children’s entertainment started at 8:45pm and finished at 9:30pm, which also felt quite limited, especially for families with young children.
Overall, I found many of the staff to be rude, unhelpful and uninterested when concerns were raised. Unfortunately, the combination of poor cleanliness, inadequate facilities, lack of assistance and limited entertainment made what should have been a special first holiday with our baby a very unpleasant experience.
For the price we paid, and especially considering the additional money spent on the Essencia upgrade, I expected a much higher standard. Sadly, I would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.
I travelled alone and felt very comfortable and safe. Very helpful staff, especially during check-in. I appreciated the adult only pool, jacuzzis and bar area and never had a problem finding a sun lounger there. A lively space. It’s a large hotel and very well kept. Everywhere seemed very clean and looked after. I really loved the decor in the lobby bar and all the different areas to sit. It was very aesthetically pleasing: the seating areas looked lovely, with plenty of variety, and they were very comfortable. Food was plentiful and tasty but a bit samey. The fresh pizza was a big hit. Dining area was extensive with lots of different areas, including some outside. Sat in a different space each meal. The all inclusive drink selection was limited and coffee was very poor, much to my disappointment! The hotel is very remote so nowhere within walking distance which was a shame. I had a problem with the AC but it was sorted as soon as I reported it, although it was not very effective. The room was lovely. Shower was over a bath…which I was aware of as it started it on the description but I did feel it let the room down and made it feel dated. The balcony was ok but disappointed that there was a 1m wall rather than railings which meant that once you were sat down you couldn’t see anything!! Would happily stay again!
We travelled as a family of four — myself, my wife, my elderly mother and our 14-year-old son — and I am sorry to say this was one of the most disappointing holidays we have taken. I wanted to write an honest and detailed account, as I feel the experience was significantly misrepresented by how the hotel and its all-inclusive package are marketed.
The Room
The hotel looks presentable enough on first impression and is generally clean, but that is where the positives largely end. Despite being newly renovated, our room had a number of issues that should simply not exist in a refurbished property. On the very first night, the toilet door lock jammed, leaving my elderly mother unable to use the bathroom until 7am the following morning when we were finally able to get it resolved — an unacceptable situation, particularly for a vulnerable guest. The main room door was temperamental and required careful attention to ensure it closed properly, and when the wind picked up, debris blew underneath it into the room. The air conditioning was virtually useless — a feeble trickle of barely cool air that provided no meaningful relief from the heat. Most concerning of all, the shower was infested with ants, and both my son and my mother were badly bitten in their room. For a newly renovated property, this level of basic maintenance failure is simply not good enough.
Food and Drink
We had booked all inclusive, but I would strongly advise anyone reading this to temper their expectations significantly — the package would be more accurately described as "some things included." The restaurant operated on a self-service model throughout, with no table service whatsoever, and the self-service equipment frequently failed. When the drinks machines did work, the drinks were so heavily watered down as to be largely unpalatable. The food was plentiful but consistently of poor quality. By the end of the week we were regularly leaving the hotel to eat out, at additional cost on top of what we had already paid for all inclusive — which rather defeats the purpose.
Ice cream for the children was not included and had to be purchased separately. This is the kind of detail that, when you have paid for a full all-inclusive package, feels petty and mean-spirited.
The one genuine bright spot in the dining experience was Sylvester on the omelette station — he was the only member of the restaurant team who made any real effort to engage with guests warmly and professionally. He deserves recognition for that.
The bar staff were, on the whole, gruff and unhelpful, with little interest in offering any level of genuine hospitality.
The All Inclusive Package
The all-inclusive offering is, in our view, significantly misrepresented. It is heavily restricted, and guests should be made fully aware of what is and is not included before booking. The sense of disappointment this creates colours the entire stay. This feeling was perhaps best captured on departure day, when we were charged simply to weigh our suitcase — a small thing, but symbolic of an establishment that seems to view guests as a revenue opportunity at every turn rather than as people to be looked after.
Language and Inclusion
The hotel does not appear to cater especially well for English-speaking guests, which seemed to contribute to a general sense of disconnect throughout our stay. My son in particular felt excluded from the animation team's activities due to the language barrier, which was disappointing for a teenager looking to get involved.
Car Parking
We hired a car during our stay and found there was nowhere to park at the hotel. No guidance was offered by guest services and it was simply a free-for-all on the surrounding roads. A brief note or some basic signage would have made a significant difference.
Pools and Sunbeds
The pools themselves are adequate, but the lack of available shade is a serious problem. There are too few umbrellas, and those that exist are frequently blown over by the wind — I spoke to a fellow guest who had sustained a cut to his head from a falling umbrella, which is a genuine safety concern. Signs prohibiting sunbed saving are displayed throughout, but the practice is rife — and given the shortage of shaded spots, it is hardly surprising that people resort to it. If you are not by the pool by 6am, you will struggle to find a shaded bed on a hot day. This needs addressing urgently.
The Surroundings
The topography around the hotel is steep, and getting between the hotel and the pool in the heat requires navigating some significant gradients. This is not the hotel's fault, but it is worth noting for any guests travelling with elderly or less mobile family members.
The beach, however, is genuinely beautiful. Watching the sunrise from there was a highlight of the trip and the one moment that felt truly special.
Beyond the Hotel
We visited Morro Jable on a day trip and found it considerably more enjoyable — a pleasant town with good shopping, a lovely beach and far better food. We had excellent tapas at the La Bodega, which I would recommend without hesitation.
Summary
A disappointing week in a hotel that promises more than it delivers. With some investment in maintenance, a genuine commitment to service, a more honestly presented all-inclusive package and better shade provision at the pool, this could be a reasonable destination. As it stands, we would not return and would find it difficult to recommend to others — with the exception of the beach, which is worth seeing, and Sylvester, who is worth seeking out.
Overall, an okay experience, but unfortunately we wouldn’t return.
The hotel itself is aesthetically pleasing, modern and very attractive. The location looks beautiful, but it is extremely remote and there isn’t really anything locally to do or explore without travelling elsewhere.
The beach is absolutely stunning and was definitely the highlight of our holiday. It’s beautiful and worth seeing.
Unfortunately, we found the food to be average at best. It was very repetitive, and unfortunately several members of our family experienced stomach pains during the holiday. The last few days seemed a chore to eat the food with all family members complaining and wary with what food to eat. The chef on the omelette station for breakfast was amazing and the only positive experience for food. I'm shocked with the lack of ice cream service for children throughout the day, this is very limited!!
The all-inclusive drinks were also disappointing. The cocktails are pre-made and in our opinion, didn’t taste very nice. There are also quite a few drinks that aren’t included in the all-inclusive package, which is disappointing considering the price paid.
One of the biggest negatives around the hotel was the smell when the plants and grass were being watered. The water had a very strong sewer-like smell which was genuinely stomach-turning at times and really unpleasant when walking around the resort and sunbathing by the pools.
On a positive note, the cleaning staff were fantastic. Our room was kept lovely and clean, towels were regularly topped up and the cleaners were always friendly and welcoming. However there were lots of ants, which we are aware happens in hot places.
Some of the hotel staff were also friendly, although overall we felt the level of service and friendliness wasn’t quite as good as resorts we’ve stayed at previously.
The entertainment was another major disappointment. It felt very repetitive and the children’s programme in particular wasn’t very engaging. I lost count with the amount of times we heard the song 'Stand by me'. With a family holiday, we expected the entertainment to be a bigger part of the experience.
Overall, although the hotel is beautiful and the beach is exceptional, there were too many negatives for us personally. For the price we paid, we expected more from the food, drinks, entertainment and overall experience.
Sadly, we wouldn’t return to this hotel.
