- Radisson Blu Resort Gran Canaria

Enjoying fantastic views to the Atlantic Ocean, this modern hotel is situated just a stone's throw from three picturesque and beautiful beaches on the southern coast of Gran Canaria. The village of Arguineguín is just a few steps away, Puerto Rico, Meloneras Beach and Playa de Mogán Harbour are within easy reach. The international airport of Gran Canaria is about 45 km away.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We have visited this hotel many times over the past 13 years and there are many reasons for returning, however the main one is the staff. From the moment we arrive, we see the same familiar faces and that demonstrates that this hotel holds onto its staff and values them. That in turn shows in their customer service which is always the best. Nothing is a problem for them and everyone is so friendly.
The hotel itself is in a wonderful location but be warned, if you are looking for a lively hotel with nightly entertainment for families, this is not your place. Everything is at a tranquil and quiet pace. Subtle background live music is played during approx 2 hrs in the evening if you take the half board option for dinner but that is it. No loud music during the day at the pools, no daily entertainment although there are tennis and padel courts as well as a children's club and swing area.
The breakfasts are still as good as ever with many options that will suit most travellers. There is an omelette and egg station as well as fresh waffles and pancakes to order as well as a full self service offering hot options. Fresh pastries, meats, cheeses etc are all available too and they now have a younger children's area for younger guests.
We no longer take the half board option as we prefer the variety of the restaurants around the area but it generally rotates on a 7 day option with the usual theme buffet nights.
The Spar supermarket on the ground floor is a wonderful bonus and is well stocked and if you have a room with a kitchen, means you have everything to enjoy lunch (or dinner) on your balcony which we do frequently. The suites are fully stocked with everything you need and if you can't find something (a can opener the last time) they will bring it very quickly!
Since we now have 2 teenagers (who tower over me), we need the 2 bedrooms and these suites as well as having a fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, have 2 bathrooms (again with teenagers this is an absolute godsend!) Rooms are cleaned daily or you can choose an eco option for less but either way, they are cleaned well. Pool towels are provided during your stay and they have a drying rack on the balcony for costumes etc.
The bar at night by the pool does great cocktails although it doesn't get very busy (such a shame in my opinion) and as we tend to walk out along to the Anfi area from the bottom gates, we don't generally go to the bar on the entrance floor (11th). This is quite common in this resort that the reception is on the top floor, rooms from 10th to 2nd, and the hotel restaurant on the 2nd floor beside the pool area. There is an a la carte restaurant (222) on the 11th floor also which is expensive but definitely worth a visit if you like fine dining.
The two pools are large and a decent temperature (the salt water one is not heated) and we have never had a problem finding a sunbed although the best sun spots by the pools are taken quicker. The pools tend to be a bit deep (for someone of 5ft its not the best) but they do have walk in areas and there is a stand alone paddle pool for young children and a slightly deeper childrens pool which joins to the main pool.
We love visiting the beach to the left of the hotel as its not controlled with sunbeds etc and tends to be the one locals flock to at the weekends - it can get busy but it's a lovely vibe. Walk to the right for 10 mins and you are at the more manicured imported beach at Anfi which has plenty of sunbeds and parasols (for a price) as well as access to the ferry which goes between Arguineguin, Anfi, Puerto Rico and Mogan regularly.
We had noticed the hotel was beginning to get a little tired in places when we visited last year but on our return this year, there were several floors which were being renovated, which is great news. I understand this will take some time but at no time did the work impact on our stay and caused very little disruption. I personally can't wait to see the new look once finished.
If you want a chilled holiday at a hotel which prides itself on fabulous service, you cant go wrong with the Radisson Blu.
We were robbed in that hotel, reported to the manager but didn’t get expected support. Jacuzzi on the balcony and oven didn’t work, the furniture in the room was stained and tattered, the air conditioner smelled, rusty cutlery, burned ironing board. The hotel needs renovation! This is absolutely not up to the standard of a five-star hotel.
Positive: friendly staff in the restaurant, good food, great gym.
Positive:
Spacious and clean pools, plenty of sun beds, wonderful lounging in the garden overlooking the sea, nice terrace, spacious parking. Suite had everyhing, from microwave oven to washing machine, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster and fridge. Nice views, nice panoramic lift, good walking to Anfi heart island, indoor supermarket, spa and sport facilities like tenniscourt, padel, sand volleyball, playground and games room. Lots of facilities for families. Friendly staff all over.
Negative:
Radisson Blu branding and pricing, but our junior suite was badly in need of renovation. We were in fact offered a renovated room, however it was still smelling of paint, so we preferred staying in our initial room, even if with mold in the shower and on the ceiling, loose fittings, worn tiles, scuffed and stained walls, loose wallpaper, dirty kitchen storage, scuffed and scratched skillets, food remnants and rust in the dishwasher, dirty couch, dirty seat pillows in the restaurant, dirty sunbed cushions.
This is far from our first visit to this resort. We have stayed here many times and every visit has been a wonderfully relaxing experience. The stunning views and beautiful beachfront location never fail to impress us. The view from the room is in our opinion exceptional and the rooms are great sizes and can be in various configurations to meet the needs of all families. We were also pleased to notice that the quality of the H/B food has improved this year. On most days, with the exception of the American-themed evening, there were plenty of healthy dining options. As fairly fussy vegetarians who do not eat fish or eggs, finding suitable choices can sometimes be a challenge, the wider range of foods was appreciated. Apart from musicians performing nightly between 7-9pm, and by the pool for a couple of hours on Fridays, the resort does not offer entertainment, which suits us perfectly. The peaceful atmosphere is one of the reasons we enjoy returning. All staff consistently go above and beyond to ensure guests have a memorable stay. A special mention goes to Yazimna, who during the busy breakfast rush always provides exceptional service. Like all resorts, there are a couple of areas where improvements could be made: towels are often draped over balconies and used to reserve sunbeds for hours at a time. On one occasion, staff placed cards on the beds asking guests not to do this, but unfortunately they were ignored. Another suggestion relates to returning guests. Most of the people we spoke to were repeat visitors, yet none appeared to receive any ‘special’ recognition on arrival. Upon arrival, I had to ask for a glass of cava, and upon entering the room we noted there was no welcome card or small gesture. While small touches like these do not affect the overall quality of the stay, they do help loyal guests feel valued and remembered. Will we return? Most likely, yes. I genuinely cannot think of a more beautiful place to stay in Gran Canaria, and that is why we continue to return.
This is a beautiful hotel in a stunning location, but it is topped even more so by the welcome you will receive from each and every member of staff. From the moment we arrived every member of the Radisson team welcomed us with such warmth and hospitality, probably more so than we have ever received anywhere. They are an absolute credit to Radisson.
We were lucky enough to stay in a beautiful apartment suite with panoramic views on the 9th floor. It is the best apartment we have ever stayed in, with stunning views, a spacious balcony and superb furniture inside and out.
We stayed half board. We really enjoyed the food, which has a different theme every evening. If you don’t fancy the dishes offered on that evening then there is a chef that will cook a meat and/or fish option right in front of you, coupled with the selection of sides available (we loved the Canarian potatoes), vegetables and delicious salad options we felt that we were offered an excellent selection of food options every evening and looked forward to going to dinner each night. There were some very nice puddings too - my absolute favourite was the apple crumble which was fabulous, and the ice cream and sorbet options were of an excellent quality too.
The staff are very swift to serve and clear away even when they are busy, and when it is quieter they will actively offer to carry things to the table for you and make the guest feel special. They work hard to look after the guests and they take time to talk with us too. The atmosphere is very nice.
My husband and I used the gym on alternate mornings before breakfast. It was very well equipped. We were also grateful of the many sunbeds available under the trees in the beautiful garden by the sea front, as we prefer the shade. It was lovely and cool here during the warmer days.
There is a great little shop on site which is reasonable. The beautiful Anfi beach is a very short walk with more bars and restaurants there too. There is also a very fancy Spar there to get your supplies should you wish. It has both cheese and deli counters which are very nice, along with anything else you might want.
There were only a couple of small negatives (both resolvable, and did not spoil the holiday). The pillows are too soft (we could have asked to change them, we just didn’t bother), I have noticed this mentioned by another guest too. Also there was an issue getting back into the hotel on our last night for a group of us, as the gates to the hotel wouldn’t open. It took a while to get the bell on the gate to answer, and a while longer to get help - we got let in by a fellow guest instead. I would just say that the bell ought to ring directly through to someone as it seemed to go unanswered - but we got in eventually and it was fine. I would imagine this issue has already been noted by the hotel now in any case.
We will return here again as we loved it so much. This is as much due to having such a delightful team running the hotel as it is the beautiful location and facilities.
Thank you :)
