Barcelo Teguise Beach

Unfortunately after 7yrs at this hotel it will probably be our last….. A great shame.

We’ve been told over the years and especially last year being my 60th birthday, the hotel were amazing on what they done for me.

So this year unbeknownst to my wife, I booked the hotel again as on last visit, I was told to email the guest experience team. I done this with a request for a certain room along with it being my wife’s major 60th birthday. Arrived today with not anything done or any acknowledgment whatsoever.

It’s a great shame that this will certainly be our last visit to this hotel. We will hopefully carry on visiting the island with another hotel that does acknowledge emails.

Overall this hotel is good, and has many positive points.

Location: Close to good bus routes, near to the airport for transfers, but if you want a hotel where you can step right onto the beach, it's not quite there, it's only a couple of minutes walk from where you get onto the beach, but if going back to the hotel bar for AI drinks is your thing, that might get annoying, though to be fair the Sports Bar is right on the sea front, so it's perfectly possible. Bear in mind beach sun beds are chargeable and quite pricey.

Atmosphere: Overall the hotel had a good atmostphere, but the pool area was always crowded, and trying to get a sunbed after 9 in the morning was impossible. We arrived just after lunch, and were looking forward to relaxing by the pool after a very early flight, but no chance of that. There simply isn't enough space for the sunbeds needed.

Food: The taste of food in the buffet was exquisite, and there was a good range to suit all tastes, but it was always luke-warm at best. They need to invest in better food warmers I think, because this spoiled the dining experience. We could also eat in the pool-side bar/restaurant called "Breeze". The Food was perfectly fine and hot, though if you just wanted a drink at the bar, service was usually painfully slow because they generally only had one person serving. The sports bar downstairs "Champs" was excellent though. Mostly fast service (apart from one day when they might have just forgotten us!) but the food was very nice, and hot.

Drinks: I highly recommend trying the B.Lounge cocktail bar next to reception. You settle into a comfy chair, there is good live entertainment (but not too loud), they come and ask you what you want, they bring it, and it tastes excellent. My impression was that they tend to use branded spirits, which was a bonus. Warning - it's very easy to sit there after dinner until 1 in the morning when they close!

Rooms: Our room was one with a hot tub and a sea view, which was lovely. The hot tub was one you fill when you need it, so no worries about bathing in the previous guests water! However, we did need to clean it a bit to get bits of palm trees out which had blown in. The bad thing about the room was that somehow the shower was set into the room surrounded by glass, with slightly opaque glass at the bottom, and clear glass at the top. Very, very bizarre, and a complete non-starter if you were sharing with someone you weren't intimate with. Very odd indeed, and bad design.

Value: We booked through Jet2, and felt the price paid was good for what we got.

Cleanliness: The first thing we noticed was how clean the room seemed, and we didn't find any nasty surprises either. The only slight thing was I suspect the shower was leaking slightly, but only a drip or two onto the floor.

Noise level: Occasionally we heard noise from the street below, particularly the sports bar directly downstairs, but this usually stopped by about 11pm, and was only a problem on the first night when we needed to go to bed early.

Service: The staff were attentive and helpful. There is a small charge for room service, which seemed entirely reasonable to me. We asked them to bring an ice bucket so we could enjoy some Prosecco in the hot tub, and this arrived quickly.

Overall: Lovely hotel, lots of positives, if you book you won't be dissappointed, but be wary of the sunbed situation. We ended up getting up before dawn to reserve them with towels etc, which we didn't like having to do, but there was no other choice. Well worth a visit though!
