Great value for money

Having read some reviews we were a bit worried. But... people's expectations were a little bit off in some of the reviews for what you pay. The rooms were large, beds were very comfortable with cleaners in everyday. The all inclusive buffet was good. Lots of salads, fruit and veg as well as the normal pasta, pork or chicken and always some fish. My favourite night... mussels and prawns! Lots there for the kids as well. We all thought it was good. Its not 5 star food but we didnt pay a 5 star price. The pools were lovely. The kids pool was next to the other larger pool and the slides kept the under 12's entertained all day. Nice to see life guards there as well. Sunbeds are chained up until 10 when the pools open so everyone picks there spot and at 10 grab a few beds. It avoids seeing towels on beds from 6am! Worked well for us. Entertainment team work hard with different activities during the day and at night. We were there for 10 days and had 4 different nights of outside singers, a games night, bingo, a dance night and a couple of quizzes. We also had 2 karaoke nights that were a bit hit and miss with their outside PA system but we found a fab karaoke bar on the road behind the hotel that we spent one evening in. The hotel is a bit remote but a taxi into the square in costa teguise is only €5 and a supermarket and a few bars are a 10 - 15 min walk away. The aqua park was also a €5 taxi ride away and was good fun. There are also buses into playa blanca etc from the road behind the hotel. We had a fab family holiday here. It needs some money spending on it as far as the entertainment teams equipment goes, especially the PA system and possibly a few more of them on the team but they worked hard with what they have. We would defo go back to this hotel. Also......the constant breeze of this island was gorgeous in the heat.

Not all we had hoped for.

Me and my family went to Lanzarote at the start of August this year. I travelled with my wife and two teenage boys but there was also a further 6 family members who we stayed with at the Blue Sea Costa Bastian.

There were a fair few negative reviews online about this hotel so we travelled with some trepidation. This review will be 100% honest.

Let’s start with the positives……despite the reviews we all enjoyed the food. There was a wide variety of choice and it was all cooked well. Some of the favourites were the muscles and prawns, the pork and the bacon at breakfast. Overall the food was decent!

The bar service was decent, there were queues at the pool bar at certain times of day but this wasn’t all the time and when there was a queue it went pretty quickly. The all inclusive options were good with choices for everyone, the beer was San Miguel which was welcome.

All staff were friendly and the entertainment team work very hard. The only issue we had with the entertainment team was on a karaoke night, the team had set up the karaoke kit and speakers outside, the mics were not working properly and the freedback wasn’t a nice thing to sit there listening to. When we complained one of the entertainment team said that they couldn’t sort it and that it was there day off the next day so was counting down to the end of his shift.

I also read on here that people had issues with sun beds, we didn’t have any issues really, as long as you are there at 09:45/10:00 to collect a bed then you should get one, most days we had beds in an area we liked. The beds themselves aren’t particularly comfortable and this was something we felt the hotel could invest in.

There were a few other negative points I am sorry to say. On the day we arrived there were ants in our room, we complained and the staff went to a local shop to buy some ant spray. The door lock was also very loose, a man came out straight away but seemed to just tighten the screw which didn’t really fix the lock, it was a temporary fix. The sheets were not changed very often and on the last day we found a used tampon behind the bidet, this wasn’t something we had seen during our entire stay but had clearly been there the whole time, something the cleaners had missed.

The pool tables kept breaking, the pool cues had no tips and there was no chalk on the end of them either.

On our last morning we went down to breakfast early and as we waited there were about 50 cockroaches climbing out of a drain near the entrance to the dinning room. The solution by the staff nearby was to kill them all and duck tape the drain up. This seemed to epitomise the overall approach to fixing issues in this hotel. I can say that we made the best of our holiday however the Hotel needs some serious money spent on it to uphold its claim of being a 4 star. For the money we spent I expected more.

We enjoyed our stay. It’s better than the negative reviews!!

After reading the reviews. We actually enjoyed our stay. Only negatives is there is no Parasols around the pool, I find this quite dangerous for baby’s, Children and elderly people. This needs addressing. Other hotels across and near by all had them so the wind can’t be the reason why there isn’t any. The breakfast was ok apart from the beans a bit Hit and miss. Eggs, sausages, Doughnut’s, Salad,Cheese, baguette’s, All Were delicious. Prepare to queue for the drinks also. Rooms are lovely apart from we had a low floor park view and we couldn’t sit on the balcony cause of the flies. We should have asked to move rooms. The pools and slides Were amazing and there is plenty of room for sun loungers. I feel this hotel is a 3 star on the outside (rubbish around the hotel) But inside it’s more a 4 star. If they sort all the issues out then I’d definitely be back. Parasols is a must ***The Staff was amazing and so helpful specially the bar staff, They made our holiday 😄 Thank you

Blue Sea Costa Bastian – honest review from a first-time trip with my 9-year-oldq

I booked this holiday through Hays Travel for my first trip away with just me and my daughter (9). Like a lot of people, I read the reviews beforehand and started to worry I'd made a bad call. But I'm a firm believer in "don't knock it till you've tried it," so we went with an open mind. Here's my honest, detailed take.

Arrival & Check-in We landed around 10pm on day one. The coach drops you at the top of a short walk down to the lobby (which doubles as the car park) — my only bit of feedback here is that the pathway lighting could be better, as it's a little dark and not the warmest welcome. The lobby itself is spacious but bare; some seating would go a long way to make it feel more like a proper foyer rather than a walkway into the bar, which sits directly ahead of reception and was in full swing with the evening entertainment when we arrived. Check-in was handled by two really pleasant members of staff. Information was a bit sparse — they pointed us to a QR code on the key card for the hotel's schedule and info (more on that below) — but they were thorough on room directions and kindly gave us a takeaway bag (sandwich, fruit, crisps, water) since the buffet had closed.

The Room We had a superior double, recently renovated — worth noting the older photos online don't reflect the current rooms. It was spacious, spotless, and well laid out, with plenty of wardrobe storage, a fridge, and a safe (around €3/day plus a €10 refundable deposit). There's also a kettle with tea and coffee. We were ground floor with a patio and seating area (1st/2nd floor rooms get a balcony instead), plus a clothes airer that makes good use of the near-constant Teguise breeze. Cleanliness really does stand out here, and I'll echo what other reviews say: the corridors smell of citrus cleaning product daily, rooms are kept spotless, and the grounds are immaculate — gardeners are out regularly keeping on top of leaves in the wind.

Breakfast Food seems to be the main gripe in other reviews, and I'd put it around a solid 3-star standard — but a few small, sensible tweaks would lift it noticeably. There's a manned grill on the left doing fried eggs/omelettes, and pancakes on some (not all — I couldn't work out the pattern) mornings. A small Nutella/honey/jam station right there would help, rather than having your pancakes go cold on the walk to the other end of the restaurant. Similarly, small milk sachets at the coffee station would stop people queueing there just to carry milk back for cereal. This is where the QR code info page really falls short — loading the weekly rotating menu onto it would be a simple win, especially for vegetarians or anyone with dietary needs planning their meals.

Pool Bar This is the weakest link. From 11am it's self-serve build-your-own sandwiches (ham, salami, cheese, white or brown bread, salad), small ice cream pots, and digestives. From 1pm, hot food rotates between chips and nuggets, chips and burgers, or nachos. Drinks are served from the bar. It would be great to see a bit more variety here — pizza or grilled chicken, for example. Overall, though, the food is what you make of it. With a bit of creativity there are some great combinations to be had — grilled chicken with spinach and potatoes, fajitas, salmon salad — though if you stick to chicken nuggets and chips the whole week, that's on you!

Entertainment Another one for the QR code page — the schedule board often shows Wednesday's show on a Monday, with no clue whether it's in the auditorium or the bar area. You end up just following the crowd, which works but isn't ideal. The entertainment itself is decent — I've seen better elsewhere, but it's good fun for kids.

The Pool & Sunbeds This was my main gripe. I've never had to compete for sunbeds before, and the anxiety of missing out did put a dampener on a relaxed morning routine. Beds are stacked and locked away at 6pm, released at 10am — and yet we regularly saw people camped at their preferred spots before 9am. There has to be a better system. The pool facilities themselves are good: a toddler pool, a slide section (up to age 12), and a main pool with shallow and deep sections. Water polo, aqua aerobics, and aqua gym run through the day — the aqua aerobics sessions in particular are brilliant, everyone joins in and it turns into a proper pool party. Location

The hotel is well placed — about 20 minutes' walk to Teguise town centre, and a short walk round the cove from there to Playa de las Cucharas, the best beach locally.

Overall A great holiday resort and well worth the money. A handful of small, low-cost tweaks (better lighting, lobby seating, a proper online schedule/menu, a fairer sunbed system) would take it from good to genuinely excellent — but as a first trip away with my daughter, it delivered exactly what we needed.
