Dreams Lanzarote Playa Dorada

We have just returned from a great week away at the Grand Hyatt Playa Dorada (formerly known as Dreams Playa Dorada). We have stayed in Playa Blanca before and had walked passed this hotel as it is backed directly on the promenade short walk down to the Rubicon Marina.

For us looking for an accessible hotel for my husband a lot of research has to be done and the Hotel did not disappoint.

We had a short and smooth transfer from the airport and when we arrived we were greeted with a cold glass of cava and a cold face flannel which was very much appreciated as it was very hot.

Having such an Early flight I didn’t think our room would be ready and we were prepared for that, but we were pleasantly surprised when we were told our room was ready. Check in was quick and informative and we were then escorted to our room with our luggage.

We booked a room in the grand club, which was a double room and we were ground floor overlooking the main pool. The reason for booking this room type is that we needed the pools that had step free access for my husband and these were only in the grand club adults only areas. There was not that much difference in price.

The rooms were spacious, beds were very comfortable, small but adequate bathroom with walk in shower, which was great for my husband. There was a separate toilet but the way it was positioned it was a little difficult for my husband to manoeuvre around but we managed. Huge balcony over looking the pool.

We stayed in room 1042 the air con was amazing and very much needed, worked perfectly. We had a mini bar included in the price and this was filled up daily, bottles of water, coke, two types of beer and orange juice. We also had tea and coffee facilities.

Our room was cleaned daily and we had a turn down service in the evening with chocolate.

We used the 2 adults only pools but our favourite was the horizon pool with the infinity pool over looking the beach, also had the swim up bar and Balinese beds that you can pay extra for but we just used the normal beds.

People still put towels down but we were normally at the pool by 9-930 and always managed to get a bed with parasol. The Other adults only pool again was nice but there were quite a few beds without parasols.

The life guards at both pools were lovely and friendly and would help put parasols up and hand out your towels in the morning.

I did notice the swim up rooms and apart from the huge balconies with the loungers the swim up pools or long plunge pool I never saw anyone in them and I think would be waste of money.

We were bed and breakfast as we like to eat out in the evening. Breakfast in the grand club restaurant was lovely, so much choice and fresh orange juice and tea and coffee brought to your table. We loved breakfast, again staff were lovely and friendly.

We could also have breakfast in the main buffet restaurant but it was so nice where we went we didn’t feel the need too. There were à la carte restaurants but as we didn’t have dinner at the hotel I cannot comment on that.

We also had access to the Grand club room for drinks and snacks throughout the day accessed with your room card, which you will need to gain access to the pools and back gate to the hotel.

Plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes along the promenade, we ate somewhere different each night. We loved the Buddha lounge and Oasis cocktail bar for drinks. Food was good we didn’t pay more than 60 euros for the both of us with drinks and 2 courses, some restaurants you pay less.

As we were out most nights we didn’t really see much of the evening entertainment, you can scan the hotel App and it tells you what is happening around the hotel, we didn’t really see any entertainment we liked which is a slight shame, that could be an improvement.

There were lots of different age groups at the hotel so seems to cater for everyone .

It was my birthday whilst we were away and guest services arranged cake and cava, unfortunately it got put in the next door room, sadly it was eaten by the guests, and left my unopened card with my name and room number on it with the empty plates. The lady was so apologetic but I wasn’t expecting anything but sadly enjoyed by someone else. The lady then came back with a gift for me to say sorry, was such a lovely touch.

We had use of a room to freshen up before our flight home, which you book a 30 minute slot. We were able to keep our luggage in a room at reception, again the reception staff were amazing.

We had such an amazing time, the hotel did not disappoint, great value for a bed and breakfast with what is all included. and the location of the hotel was great too. Would recommend and we will definitely be back in the future.

I have just had a wonderful stay at this hotel. I feel they cater for all ages and really make your stay very special. All the staff in every area are a credit to the hotel. I will certainly return.
