I wanted this to be a 5, I was so looking forward to it, family run, old fashioned not modern, charming was what I was looking for and at first glance on arrival after a long trip this what I thought I had found. I had requested if possible months before an upgrade to a suite, on arrival I was told that this what I was going to get, a junior suite.
The room smelt slightly musty, as per from other reviews I put this down to the age of the hotel, as expected the room was hot in the evening, it was summer in August, however the next evening it was a stronger heat and I asked the next day for fan and one of the family members to proceeded to check the aircon and turned it up, I had tried this but it did not move? The room had felt slightly damp through the week, but I put this down to the sun not hitting the room. The evening before check out we realised the aircon had been leaking down the side of the wall, not just dripping but enough to saturate a towel during the night. The sun did not hit room 234 and therefore the room did not dry, it was carpeted so the carpet was soaking up the leak on inspection the picture had water damage from the water prior to this incident. I did let the hotel know about this, I was compensated but I wish I had gone with my gut earlier in the week when I felt the room was not right. Someone knew about this fault prior to guest being allowed to stay.
Some rooms were laminated ours was the only one I saw in the corridor not laminated but carpeted, just don't stay in 234.
I suspect I was popped in there as the previous guest had refused to stay.
The balcony was never cleaned, the pine needles were left day after day, if you were at the front of the hotel you were in a modern room, the paint work kept up and the windows cleaned at the back over looking the mini golf you were in an uncared for room. The room was not cleaned despite the sign being on the door, this happened on two occasions, on the 2nd we did mention it to reception then had to wait after being out for the room to be made up.
Plus points the spa is lovely, go in the morning you have it to yourself.
Cons one of the saunas did not work and the tropical shower did not work.
The restaurant at the beach is the most popular, slightly confusing as we wanted to sit inside and were told that we could not it was only outdoor dining, the next night at the same restaurant different staff we were inside.
You have to book as per other reviews but when you go, the restaurant can be empty for the time you could not book for very confusing.
Plus points the dinner in the main restaurant is lovely, the pianist was excellent and this created a lovely ambience whilst eating dinner.
Plus points for quiet and relaxation head to the pool in the main hotel.
Plus points the bar tender is very friendly and an asset tot he hotel.
Would I stay hear again I just don't know?
Kind and friendly staff and family members available for all your needs. Lots of lovely indoor and outdoor areas, even on our last day I found a new area for relaxation and well being in the massive hill side garden. There are four great areas to swim and lots of sun shades. Two superb restaurants, both with fantastic table service and great chefs. Top restaurant has real charm and is effortlessly charming and relaxed, the staff are attentive but never intrusive with live piano or violin accompaniment. The beach restaurant has a lovely buffet with sea food and specialties like squid paella, lovely desserts and the sound of the sea when you dine. The hotel is on different levels, but there are lifts and amazing tunnels that take you to all levels. This hotel has lots of history, that you can read about on the hotel website. An amazing holiday destination for all. We will be coming again for more Bonsol!
Visited family staying here for a day... unique quirky property built into the hill amongst stunning tropical gardens witg majestic sea views.
Such a wonderful find and an amazing place to stay. The Bon Sol is a very unique and comfortable hotel that not only offers exceptional comfort but outstanding service from a very professional and friendly staff. The rooms are all unique and individual and are superbly decorated and have all the amenities. There are three restaurants, one for breakfast and two further for either lunch or dinner. The menu is extensive and changes daily with lots of specials and dishes of the day. There is a large main pool by an outside bar alongside the sea cove and a relaxing pool on a raised tier. The Spa offers an extensive range of treatments. The gym is well equipped and accessible. There is also a relaxing sauna and spa area which is well worth a visit. The hotel is family owned and run and the owners are always around and welcoming. Altogether it is a fabulous place and all the staff are welcoming and friendly.
Let me say this first Hotel Bonsol is a very nice hotel.
That said, My kid went to the bar and ordered a virgin pina colada, order comes back wrong. Fine, no big deal we go back to the bar to reorder her the right drink and Miguel, the super slow bartender tells my wife that the order is “boring”.
Later when I speak to him directly he’s says sorry (but is clearly not) and tells me to go add it to the thousands of bad reviews about him. He seems very confident that he can get away with this kind treatment of guests who are paying good money to be here, and maybe he can. Either way I thought I would would put this one in writing. I’m physically shaking at the level of disrespect. Not impressed
