H10 Big Sur Boutique Hotel

This was our sixth visit to Tenerife and our first experience staying in a hotel and in the Los Cristianos area. Usually, we have chosen self-catering accommodation and stayed in many other parts of the South and South West of island.

It was a fantastic experience. First of all, the hotel is adults-only, which is very valuable to us. We are a couple in our early fifties.

The hotel is excellent, and the location is perfect. Los Cristianos itself is very beautiful, and the harbour with its ferries made every morning unforgettable. Sitting on the balcony — we are so pleased that we chose a sea-view room — you can watch the large, beautiful ferries arriving and departing.

Our room, number 411, was spacious, clean and bright, with a wonderful ocean view.

I would especially like to thank the hotel management for providing a complimentary water station next to the bar, where guests can drink and refill their bottles with still or sparkling water without limits. We all know how valuable drinking water is on the island, and this is such a thoughtful and appreciated service.

The pool was excellent, with plenty of sun loungers. However, as we all know, there are always guests who place a towel on a sunbed and then disappear for half the day.

But we are ocean lovers, so during all ten days of our holiday we went to Las Vistas Beach, just a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Before this trip, I thought Del Duque was my favourite beach, but now I have a new favourite. Las Vistas is a beautiful, long and wide beach with showers and plenty of space for everyone. Even during the peak summer school-holiday season, it never felt crowded.

It also has a lovely promenade, white houses and the café-bars that we came to love for an Aperol Spritz.

Regarding breakfast, it was a classic hotel breakfast with a good selection.

As a chef myself, I am very happy to give the dinners a 10 out of 10. Every evening there was an excellent choice of food for every taste. As big seafood fans, I was worried that the hotel might offer only a limited selection, but I am so happy that I worried for nothing. To the kitchen team: I know personally how demanding our work is, especially in such heat. You did an absolutely outstanding job.

There are excellent professionals working in every department. Our room was cleaned perfectly, the reception team was always helpful with any request, and the restaurant and bar staff always welcomed and said goodbye with a smile.

I would also especially like to mention that, as we had a late flight on our departure day, it was possible to reserve a time slot to have a shower either in a courtesy room, if available, or in the gym shower facilities. We used this service and were very grateful for it.

On the day of departure, for the first time, I did not feel sad about leaving. Instead, it felt as though we had been visiting close friends — and we know for certain that we will come back again.

By the way, I have already recommended your — now “our” — hotel to friends, and they are planning their trip for the first week of December.

We were booked into this hotel for a week

• and stayed precisely one night. Dirty, rundown and shabby with threadbare carpets, dust and a general manager and head receptionist who lie. We complained about the numerous problems to the travel company and the hotel's response is nothing short of unbelievable.

The pictures of the worn out carpets they suggested weren't even their hotel - what did they think, that we'd brought with us pictures of a tatty carpet that just coincidentally was EXACTLY the same pattern as theirs? Every legitimate complaint we've made has met with barefaced lies and untruths, so much so that we are considering legal action. This is a dreadful hotel made worse by being badly run by unprofessional, incompetent liars. You should be ashamed. And if you are reading this be very careful about making any further libellous comments
