I can say that Alua was the best choice for my vacation, the best services and confort! We had a Ocean View room and it was spectacular!
At the end of my stay, when I was checking out, the hotel cheated me out of €40. When I arrived at the hotel, I paid a deposit for four pool towels and received deposit cards. Nobody informed me that, in order to get my money back for the towels, I also had to present proof of payment. I was told that the towel cards themselves served as proof of the deposit.
On the last morning, I returned all four towels to the lifeguard and received the deposit cards back from him. At check-out, I handed the cards to the receptionist, but the receptionist refused to refund my deposit, giving me a very convoluted explanation that I could have found the cards somewhere and that they might not actually belong to me.
At the same time, all the other guests received their deposits back without having to show any receipt or proof of payment.
I have never encountered this kind of attempt to unfairly take money from guests at any other hotel.
Not british friendly and food poor, also all inclusive is very poor. All u get is left overs from breakfast at the pool area if you dont want to go to the restaurant for food, no ice cream for the kids Apart from one that's in a yogurt pot and tastes more like cream
This hotel is generally okay, if anyone is booking this hotel it’s not because you’ve won the lottery. It’s a European 4 star definitely not a uk 4 star.
Hotel The building is not going to win any prizes for its beauty. The pool area is quite basic but lots of sunbeds . The pool doesn’t open until 10 so if you are with little ones you’ll have to put up with a lot of ‘how long’ Rooms are large and very clean with maid service everyday.
Food Breakfast and lunch generally okay. Dinner was not the best. Snack bar okay cakes , burgers , hotdogs. We went out a few times into town and for a family of 3 with starters main course and wine/ soft drinks it was around 90 euros. Staff were lovely especially Pablo who spoke to our son every day and helped him practice his Spanish. There is no aircon in the dining room and is is boiling which is a downside.
Bars Good selection of drinks in general with slushes in the bars for the kids. Pool bar if you ask the have small ice cream tubs other ice-creams you have to pay for.
Upstairs bar okay everything is served in a plastic cup unless you ask for a proper glass but you have to stay inside.
Downstairs bar is more quiet and nice to have a drink.
Rooftop is lovely but you have to pay for drinks.
The all inclusive finishes at 11pm.
Entertainment This is mainly a hotel for the French and the company who run the holiday have their own entertainment team. The hotel also put on entertainment . Day time there is Aqua aerobics, foam parties, inflatables in the pool (not all on the same day) Evening entertainment discos, circus, bingo etc. The French animation team also do separate activities for the people who booked via them, however they are very nice and let you join in the activities if you want to.
There is also ping pong. Arcade games and pool ( bring some euros in change)
There is a notice board with all the activities and times near the dining area.
Local area. Erm the initial area isn’t the most scenic. However the hotel Is 5 minutes to the beach….. this is a black sand beach and is a mare so bring swimwear you don’t mind getting ruined. The local town is a 15/20 minute walk away and it’s really lovely lots of shops, bars and restaurants. Plus the Agatha Christi steps.
Trips You can walk to loco. Of you are planning on going To the water park it’s about an hour and 20 minutes away by bus. The hotel can arrange this but you leave at 8.30 And dot get back until 8ish in the evening.
Overall a good option for a budget holiday. I wouldn’t stay in this hotel again but would come back to the area.
We're almost at the end of our 2 weeks at the Alua Tenerife and have had the best time. The only thing that lets the hotel down is the exterior which doesn't match how beautiful it is on the inside. Our room is modern, spacious and spotless with a huge balcony. Numerous lifts so never waiting long. Dining area is spotless with tables cleared almost instantly by the efficient staff. All staff have been friendly and welcoming. Free safe in the room and water stations on each floor to refill bottles. Towels are provided and refunded when returned. Food has been perfect, always a great choice and delicious. We honestly don't understand the negative reviews. Yes the entertainment mainly caters for the French and Spanish but that's to be expected when the English are in the minority, we haven't found it an issue at all. All the staff work so hard and the entertainment team are excellent Loved the aqua gym with my 12 yo daughter and although the gym is aged, it's perfectly adequate. Shops are on the ground floor which is very convenient. Visited the roof top bar which is lovely but additional to AI. Overall a great holiday at the Alua Tenerife.
