Extremely disappointing experience in Belek — I cannot recommend this destination

We stayed at Maxx Royal Belek for our holiday. Unfortunately, after experiencing a serious accident involving a broken leg, our entire impression of Belek and the local medical system changed completely.

When everything is going well, Belek may look like a beautiful luxury holiday destination. But you understand the real level of a destination when something goes wrong and you urgently need help.

We were taken to Anatolia Hospital Aspendos, which was presented to us as one of the best hospitals in the region. Naturally, this gave us confidence that we would receive high-quality and professional medical care. Unfortunately, our personal experience was exactly the opposite.

The doctors and medical staff we dealt with were extremely unfriendly and, in our experience, demonstrated a very disappointing level of professionalism. When someone is in pain with a broken leg, you expect medical professionals to communicate clearly, show compassion, explain the situation and treatment options, and make the patient feel safe. Instead, we felt uncomfortable, unsupported and increasingly concerned about the quality of care being offered.

Our overall experience at Anatolia Hospital Aspendos was extremely negative. We encountered what we felt were excessive and unreasonable charges, very poor communication, and medical practices that left us with very little confidence in the treatment being proposed. At a moment when a patient and family are already stressed and vulnerable, we felt that the priority was money rather than the patient and proper medical care.

What concerned us even more was that this was supposedly one of the better hospitals available in the area. If this represents the level of medical care tourists can expect from one of the region’s leading hospitals, it raises serious concerns about what happens when a visitor suffers a genuine medical emergency while on holiday in Belek.

The experience was so concerning that we decided we did not want to proceed with surgery in Turkey and preferred to return to our home country for further treatment.

I am writing this review because other international tourists should understand that a holiday destination is not only about beaches, restaurants and luxury hotels. You should also consider what happens if you or your child has an accident, breaks a bone, or requires urgent medical treatment.

Based on what happened to us, I strongly do not recommend Belek as a holiday destination, particularly for families. Our experience with the medical services completely ruined our holiday and left us regretting that we had chosen Belek.

I sincerely hope the Turkish tourism and healthcare authorities pay more attention to the way foreign tourists are treated when they require emergency medical assistance.

Every single detail was thoughtfully planned to create the best possible guest experience. We spent five unforgettable days at the hotel, and every member of staff was exceptional. Smiles, genuine warmth, and a “can-do” attitude were always present throughout our stay.

From the Aquapark waiters and staff to Batuhan and Ibrahim at Safran Restaurant, and also all staff in Maxxi Land ,everyone consistently went above and beyond to make our holiday truly special.

A very special thank you goes to our Maxx Assistants, Esra and Emre. They were always available whenever we needed them, incredibly helpful, attentive, and professional. They made us feel like valued VIP guests, ensuring every request was handled quickly and with genuine care. Their personal attention made a real difference to our holiday, and they are a true credit to the hotel.

You should all be incredibly proud of what you’ve created. We can’t wait to see the hotel after the renovations and look forward to returning.
