The Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa

We stayed here for the final week of a 2 week honeymoon, and it was the perfect environment for this type of holiday. The hotel public areas feel luxurious and expensive, with top class finish, water features everywhere, and lush indoor-outdoor dining areas.

The room was slightly dated, with minor things like the shower control being a bit loose to the wall, but this is a small gripe when you factor in the overall comfort and experience. When it comes to the rooms, cleanliness is impeccable, with regular cleaning services leaving everything tidy, clean and fresh. The cleaning staff were extremely polite and helpful and clearly very attentive.

The pools are both really well built, with beautiful vistas and comfortable sunbeds, though at both we wish there were more shades/umbrellas available.

Food at all restaurants was top notch. There is clearly a really capable chefing team in this hotel, and we had an equally excellent experience at Kangan (Indian), Seasonal Tastes (the regular buffet), Mystique (Asian fusion) and the Tepanyaki restaurant (which was also a great show). I always love a good All Inclusive buffet, and this one never disappointed, with good variety and consistent quality.

Last but not least, every single member of staff is professional, polite, kind and friendly. Many go out of their way to make you feel special (shout outs to Adam and Owen from the bars, Ravi who manages multiple areas, Kavi the resort manager, Madelyn at the Teppan, and Karine from entertainment in particular). They made our stay a real pleasure and made it feel a bit special.

Final bonuses - my wife had a wonderful time at the spa and I used the well equipped (and nicely air conned) gym a few times. There's also beautiful little birds flitting about the outside areas, and adorable fruit bats you can watch at night in some of the trees by the beach. We loved both.

What an incredible hotel to stay at. My wife and I spent a week here for our honeymoon and constantly our expectations were exceeded.

To start, the location is beautiful. There are so many amazing ocean views from all restaurants, pools and bars and you certainly feel in tropical paradise with palm trees and other flora dotted around the resort. The rooms are stunning with lots of space, very comfy beds, a huge bathroom area with waterfall shower and free standing bath and a spacious balcony where you can watch the fruit bats glide through the palms in the evening.

The staff are some of the friendliest and attentive I have ever experienced in a hotel. I would like to especially shout out, Yoan, who greeted us on our first day and was exceptionally warm, kind and attentive and went above and beyond by hand delivering ice to our room when my wife had hurt her foot after we went diving. There was also Pamela, who we quickly became chatty with who was extremely friendly and would always look out for us to say hello at breakfast and dinner. She even organised a special dinner (without our prior knowledge) to celebrate our honeymoon and organised the decorating of our table (by the talented Deven) and the friendly sommelier, Shan, brought us a delicious bottle of wine and explained a little about the fascinating diversity of Mauritian culture.

The dinners were very tasty and we ate at all restaurants (we had a half board stay). The best dinners we had, had to be the Teppanyaki at the Fusion restaurant (a bit pricey but worth it for the spectacle and the food) and the Indian restaurant, Kangan. All I would say is that the service could be quite slow, especially at the Mystique restaurant. It was not unusual to be waiting for a drink 30 minutes after ordering and one time we had to ask for the bill 4 times.

There were plenty of things to do such as the sauna and jacuzzi at the wellness centre, swimming and chilling by the two beautiful infinity pools, a number of games to keep you entertained (table tennis, tennis, chess, pool and carrom). At the beach end of the resort, we made the most of the water activities such as snorkelling trips, paddle boarding and even wind surfing lessons. There was a weekly program of activities as well that were often free and displayed on the interactive screen by reception or the bulletin board.

Overall, this was an exceptional stay with only a few minor qualms.

Pros: great location, friendly and attentive staff (especially Pamela and Yoan), good range of activities and tasty food. Cons: slow service (especially at Mystique) and slightly expensive for the extra add ones.
