A holiday to San Miguel offers a completely different experience to holidays found in the other Tenerife Resorts. Meaning Saint Michael in Spanish, San Miguel de Abona is a mountainous valley in the south of Tenerife leading down to splendid traditional coastal towns. At San Miguel you will find no late night bars and clubs, instead a holiday here is all about discovering traditional Tenerife. For those looking for a peaceful holiday surrounded by local culture and cuisine there is no better place than San Miguel to spend your holiday in Tenerife.
The town of San Miguel is definitely one of the highpoints of staying in this area. Winding alleys and streets, in a classical architectural style lead on to squares filled with cafes and restaurants, the old church is particularly beautiful and is well worth a visit. Outside of San Miguel, the nearby villages are great to explore to really get a feel of Canarian life while you are on holiday. Why not try exploring the local countryside on horseback or climbing one of the nearby hills to get a picture perfect view of Tenerife.
If you would like a break from the traditional atmosphere that a San Miguel holiday offers, then the resort of Playa de Las Americas and Los Christianos are only a short drive away, and their sandy beaches and watersports are well worth a daytrip. Mercury Holidays can help you rediscover the traditional side of Tenerife on a San Miguel holiday with our great packages and flight offers for great value too.
Tenerife is lucky enough to boast a near-year round climate, there is very little variation between Summer and Winter in temperature and indeed in rainfall. However the day-to-day weather around the island can vary depending on where you are in the island, for example at the summit of Mt.Teide it may be snowing whereas just an hour away on the beaches of Playa de Las Americas you can quite happily sunbathe! The coast of Tenerife boasts the most sunshine and least cloud than the rest of the island. The hottest months are July and August with an average temperature of 25C, the coolest months are December to February with an average temperature of 18C although it can reach up to 22C even in these months! The driest months are June to August with virtually no rainfall, the most rainfall falls from October to December with an average of 15mm a month.
